Softball and baseball--so popular games

In USA, softball and baseball are very popular. To cerebrate the Independence Day, one of the traditional activities is playing baseball. I don't know it much, even the rule. Do you know why it is so popular here?

Baseball has been popular in the U.S. for a very long time. I'm not sure why it's so popular but, in my opinion, one of the reasons is because it's an easy game to organize and play. You can form two teams with any group of people and the only equipment you really need to have in order to play is a ball and something to hit it with. If you don't have a bat, a stick will do. If you don't have a glove, you can catch the ball with your hands and you can use anything that's handy for the bases. It is fun to play and to watch.
