Thieves go free while victim goes behind bars...WTF?!

Seriously...just, seriously? Is this for real? If it is, i'm starting to feel that America's not the "land of the free and the home of the brave".
Long story short, 82-year old Robert Wallace was a victim of two thieves, and he was trying to protect his life and property. He was even close to being run over by them. Even the thieves admitted their crimes, and the so-called "justice system" is about to throw the guy in prison for life just for something that should be common sense.
Seriously, WTF? I'm already reading other news stories that make me feel as if the USA is starting to turn into a police state, but this? If Lady Justice is blind, she just got her blinds torn off, got corrective eye surgery and wearing rose-colored glasses to make her jaded and play favorites.
SERIOUSLY, COME ON! 
...and i've already felt earlier yesterday when I had a headache and a fever. Hearing something like this doesn't help at all.

Honestly, I do not think we can do anything when the law is being meddled with politics and bureaucracy crap!
Can we expect more or even justice to begin with when a terrorist who had been proven beyond any doubt for 270 lives be released after being locked up for more than 2 decades on some dubious medical grounds?
I suppose you know whatever happened after that.
Then, there are the alarming number of pedophiles on the loose because the prisons are being overcrowded by life imprisonment inmates who along with the aforementioned deserve to be executed. All in the name of being humane, to perpetrators who do not have any regards to other human lives.
Also, if you could recall not so long ago where a shopkeeper was jailed after he walked his tied up staff whom he caught stealing from his shop's cash register, on the charge of unlawful detainment and taking the law in his (shop owner) hands.
So, whatever is happening at your end there is just forthcoming or waiting to happen. Sad but it is true and prevalent.

Everyday you hear another story and you wonder what is going on in the justice system. It is so scary. I feel so bad for this old man. Its just not right. The criminals in this case should be in jail not the other way around. What is going on in this world today.
