How to find the maximum size which mu system can hold??????

Hi friends , I just need to upgrade my RAM , i am having Pentium D CPU 2.80Ghz 2.79Ghz ,256 MB of RAM now i need to upgrade RAM but i don't know the capacity of RAM which can support my system? I don't know weather i am having DDR2 or DDR3 RAM . I wish to upgrade 1GB RAM addition to old one, How can i find the limit of the system which can support maximum of size??

Go to your sistem information ( Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Sistem Information). On the system summaries, you'll find sistem model of your mainboard. Please googling to know more about it.
