I have a Nintendo DS Lite, I prefer it because it still has the feature of backwars with the GBA and I use a DSTT flashcard to watch movies and play downloaded games. The flashcards are good, they are cheap and in the case of mine it supports micro sd cards of up to 32 Gb.

I use a flash cart for my ndsi, my children also have them for their nds's. They are very good and worth purchasing. I have all my boys games backed up on them, which gives them the ability to take just the console and the cart with them. Which inturn saves me the added stress of making sure all the original games are present and correct.
So yes, I would recommend you getting one as they do serve a purpose. I have recommended them to many of my friends who also have children, they too find them a god send.
