Here in the Northwestern US it's camping time, whole families pack up and go to the mountian, lakes and sea shore for a day or more, sometimes they go for the whole Summer. It's so wonderful to get out in the country and we have many beautiful camping area. Is this popular in your country? And if you are in the US does your family do this?

Hi savypat, I don't have such camping enjoyment here in North Borneo that you have in your country...we have many beautiful beaches, islands, waterfalls and a majestic mountain (mount Kinabalu)here but I think people here do not do camping. Some reasons may be fear of snakes, malaria (caused bt mosquito bites), flood, distance from home, lack of camping sfacilities and camping skills, etc. They visit those places under the auspices of tourism and so they like to visit as tourists and live in chalets and resort hotels. I wish I could be in your country. When I was studying in England I did go for caravanning at Filey near York. I cannot forget it.

We do not camp a whole lot, but a little each summer. Last year our work schedules meant we hardly ever saw each other. I look forward to getting out, we go to a nearby lake usually.

Although it is not the right weather for it at the moment for us in Australia we enjoy camping very much and we do have some lovely spots in our state ideal for camping, fishing, bushwalking…I used to go camping a lot when I was younger. These days it is not as often because we have a child and a few animals to take care of but the last time we did it was around three years ago, we went down south one summer near the beach with a young child, a dog and two cats in tow; it was fun at first but it did get a little tiring after a while, not to mention crowded!

Pat-
The husband and I bought a full camping set a year and half ago planning just that, yet were not able to do so. This summer we've better hours that allow him to have his weekends off and we're hoping to get up north or down into Southern, Minnesota. I also want to see if we can work out an extended weekend so we can get over to see Devil's Tower and Mount Rushmore.
My sister-in-law camps out at Devil's Lake each summer and that is something else I'd love to do with her. She has a blast. It's just her and the kids, no cell phones, no games etc. Just a nice quiet break from life.
I went camping quite a bit as a child and I loved it for just that reason. It was always nice to have my parents attention, because at the house there were distractions of jobs, phones, and television. I hope you have a great camping trip!

When I was a child, we used to spend family vacations in the summer with camping. It was my late father's favorite outdoor activity. We were always going somewhere to go camping. Sometimes I miss those childhood days. We would pick a campsite close to the lake and pitch our tents. It was fun to lay out under the stars at night. People who have never had a camping experience are missing out on a wonderful time.

I am not from the US but UK so all I do in the summer is walk down to the beach, we have woodland nearby so don't really feel the need to travel. To be able to afford to go away for a whole summer would be a luxury most can't afford. Huggles. Ellie :D

When I was little my family went camping a few times every summer. Dad had a boat that he got by doing some work for a guy and we'd take that loading with camping supplies to a lake. After we set up camp we'd ski, ride around the lake exploring in it. We'd climb and hike, play badminton, volleyball and stuff like that and make friends with the other families there.
Imagine my surprise when I learned later that we camped because we could not afford to vacation any other way! Heck, I thought that was the best way anyone could vacation! I felt sorry for my friends who went to hotels and couldn't play in the hills and mountains or swim and fish (and eat the fish later!) in lakes and rivers.
I loved camping. When I was older I continued camping by myself, it was my refuge and my place of sanity. Have you or do you still camp?

When I was younger, I went camping with my family a few times. It's a really cool experience, but I haven't done it in years. Honestly though, thinking about it, I do think it would be fun to get up and go out camping for a night or two perhaps. The difficulty would just be finding someone who would go out and do it with me because I don't know if a lot of my friends are really the camping type haha.
