Here's an interesting discussion - What's your pet-word?

Pet-words are words one uses a lot while writing or speaking. My writing is pretty neat, but when I speak, I tend to use the phrase "You know" a lot. Previously I used to say "like" in almost every sentence I spoke. Somehow it got replaced with "You know"...:) It'll be fun to know other people's pet-words. PS: Don't think you don't have a pet-word. Almost everyone has one...;)

In writing I guess my pet word is a various curse but yeah. Where as in speech as your typical Canadian my pet word would be "Eh" or the way I actually say it "Hey". It's quite annoying actually because I don't even try to say the word but it just pops right out and it's like .

Americans make fun of Canadians by using the term 'eh?' at the end of a sentence but I find that Canadians don't say it nearly as much as people like to think. I guess comedians are just looking for something to pick on. However, there are a certain sect of Canadians (I won't say which ones) say 'eh' all the time.

My pet writing word is "uber". I use it a lot. As for speaking, I'm not sure what my pet word is.

I guess mine is "Uh ..." Sometimes "Um ..." I like to think of it as the Americanized version of "AOUM" (commonly spelled "OM")

I don't really have a lot of pet-words when I'm writing. I probably use 'I mean,' a lot to mention an example. But I use 'like' and 'uh' and 'um' a lot while talking. Usually because I tend to talk before I think, or my mouth moves too fast for my words to catch up. I stumble over words a lot because I'm a naturally fast speaker. It gets annoying to both me and the person who is listening to me!

My teenage daughter says "like" all the time. It drives me insane. One day we were at one of her soccer games in a town about 45 minutes away. She chattered all the way home and I slapped her on her bare thigh everytime she used 'like' in a manner for which it was not intended. It was a fun little event which had her giggling all the way home. She laughed even harder when she saw how red her leg was when we got home. She says 'like' way too often! I have to admit I did find myself saying 'like' every once in awhile myself. Because I was listening so closely to her 'likes' I was noticing my own. I don't know that I stopped saying it but I don't use unnecessary words unless I'm joking around. Another bad one is saying "goes" instead of "says". That one makes me crazy. Note, I am a writer and self-professed grammar queen to the point where I am always correcting my kids grammar.

Well, if you have the say, I guess my pet word is well. Well, I mostly start most of my answers with well cause it gets down to the point. And I also love your pet word. When I read content that says you know, I crave it. I feel as if the person behind it has a fun characteristic, which may or may not make sense to you.

In discussions I tend to wrtie BUT a lot or BUT THEN. Because it's a discussion I have to explain all sides. But on other cases of writing, I don't do that a lot. Other words are 'actually' 'for me' 'and'
