Where is the best place in Asia can we go?

Hi! my dear MyLotters, I have been surfing the net this last few days looking for tour packages to places in Asia but nothing really catches my interest. You know, i am tasked to accompany my parents to an out of the country trip and i have to be the one to choose a place suited for their age and interest. My sister who is the one sponsoring the trip wants us to go to any country in Asia. I am looking at Singapore, Hongkong and Korea. Thailand is not a good place to go to at present so its out of my list. My parents are in their early seventies but they are still strong and can still travel for long hours. I wish to bring them to a place where they can enjoy and relax even for few days only. Your suggestion is very much welcome.

Hi triplejazzm! Honestly I marvel your parents. Still strong and can still travel for long hours despite being in their early seventies. You are such a wonderful person to have been trusted with such a task. It's such an honor for me to suggest something we offer here as I've had responded to one earlier. I love to welcome you and your parents to our garden city. There are just too many things I can think of to fill your itinerary with lots of choices to make your stay here a wonderful experience. a. There are some major ethnic districts to savor the customs, traditions, fashion delicacies, architecture and lots of shopping and souvenir-hunting from: Chinatown, Arab Street, Geylang, Little India, The Peranakan Museum, the ultra modern Orchard Rd. b. Among the top tourist attractions are: The Singapore Zoo, The Bird Park, The Night Safari (opens only at night), Sentosa (by road, light train or cable car from Mt Faber)(Sentosa has a wide variety of attractions from the beach, Underwater World, Butterfly Gdn, Universal Studio's attractions of a mini disneyland), The Singapore Flyer, The Botanical Gardens, The Merlion Park (is a must see), c. Food is readily available from roadside vendors, to food courts, cafeterias and restaurants. Something uniquely local would include: Chilli crabs, chicken/duck rice, satay (barbequed meat on skewers with peanut sauce and rice cakes, cucumbers and onions), a wide variety of Chinese noodles, a wide variety of european cuisnes, a wide variety of Indian cuisines that include bryani rice. d. The Orchard Rd belt all the way south to the Marina Bay is lined with hotels both competitive and 5-star rated. You may have heard of YMCA, Hotel 81 chain and the like. e. Ask the Concierge in the hotel for free and easy city tours, trishaw tours or the free shuttles to some (not all) major attractions. f. Alternative you may wish to purchase a tourist ticket that allows you to hop from buses to Mrt trains. The buses and the Mrt line connect Changi Airport to down town. There are taxis obviously but there is a surcharge of S$3.00 (if there is no increase). Brochures are readily available at the airport or you may wish to ask the info desk at the arrival hall. g. If you shop for electricals and electronics especially, you may wish to ask the shop on how you could get your GST (Goods and Services Taxes of 7% be refunded, maybe not from the shop but at the airport before you depart home). Hope this helps! Enjoy your stay!

Hi Tomitomi! thank you for your suggestion, the information you gave is so complete that i can have it as basis for my plans. Actually my sister wants us to go to your place because she likes Singapore so much. She worked there for six years as a nurse at NUH. Unfortunately she failed to invite our parents to visit her when she was still there. Well, thank so much.

Would be great if your sister could come along. Whoever among you decides to visit here honestly I just want all of you to feel safe, welcomed, have fun and enjoy your time here. Whoever we are that's what we want. And that's how I feel too if I'm away visiting another country. Hi Tripplejazzm, I’ve been to Malaysia and explored the islands and beaches in Langkawi and I really enjoyed the place. But I don’t think it will be a good place for your parents as there’s lots of nice beaches in your place ---in Romblon. Anyways, my husband had been to Singapore and Japan and he’s looking forward to bringing us there for a tour. He loves the well-known park in Singapore. He finds staying there so relaxing. He too, even went to Mt. Fuji (Japan) for sight-seeing and picture taking. Goodluck! May you find to go to…have fun scouting!

Singapore would be a good choice. It is really clean and systematic. It is really easy to commute and it is pretty safe there. You can go to the Botanical Garden, Jurong Bird Park, Sentosa, Universal Studios, Night Safari, etc. If you are staying for a week or more then you can also visit Batam, Indonesia through ferry (45 minutes travel one way). You can also go to Malaysia, there is a bus going to Johor and Kuala Lumpur (travel time 4 hours and 6 hours respectively by land). If your parents love to shop then Hongkong would be the place to be, however I'm not sure if the places of interests there would excite them. My mom wants to celebrate her 60th birthday outside the country. It would be on September and she would like us to go to Vietnam. Hopefully we can also make a side trip to Cambodia to visit Angkor Wat.

Hi triplejazzm51! I'm currently in Cheonan-do, South Korea. It's near to Seoul. There are lots of tourist attractions here not only for the youngsters but also for adults as well. I liked the Korean Folk village, its very near to Seoul. You can see old Korean houses and traditional pots. It's like an Ancient Korea. Also another traditional place is the Gyeongbok-gung Palace in Seoul. Namdaemun (Great South Gate) is a shopping district. If you like an unusual amusement park, go to Lotte World. If you like the beach, go to Jeju Island. Oh.. I almost forgot, I want to promote my country too. I'm from Japan. My country has lots and lots of good places for tourists to go to. . Very much of modern technology are seen at Tokyo Japan while if you want something more traditional, it's in Kyoto. Akihabara is the Electronic shopping district found in Tokyo while the Fashion shopping is in Shibuya, Shinjuku and harajuku. Your parent's would love onsen (hot springs) but it summer now, hahaha. Famous restaurants are found in Ginza. Happy travelling! Have a nice day!

Hi Sachii315, yes i really would love going to Japan, when i was still young i really dreamt of going to Japan because i want to see your landscapes and gardens. I also want to visit my friend in Kyoto at that time but we stopped communicating since 1982. Maybe you are not yet born during the eighties. Any way, for this travel, i think i will now discuss with my parents and my sister who is sponsoring the trip, taking into considerations all your suggestions. Thanks a lot and have a nice day!

You could try Philippines in the Palawan area if you want to relax and see the beauty of nature much more, prices are very cheap and you can maximize your budget in there. You could also go to Hongkong or Singapore. I've been to Hongkong and I can really say it is a very nice country and would love to go back there again.

I have visited both Hong Kong and Singapore. I went to Hong Kong once and really enjoyed it. I liked going to Singapore so much that I have been there three times. I haven't been to Korea. For your parents that are in their 70s I suggest Singapore. It is clean and orderly. There are many sights and accommodation is decent. The transport system is excellent. I have also been to Kuala Lumpur and think it is a lovely city. I wish you luck in choosing the perfect place for your parents and yourself.

Hi there. Personally, I'm in another Asian country. But I'll just mention it a little later. Foremost and to be honest, I have never went out of the country I live in so I'm really not an expert to say that this or that place is the best one to go to. But if I would be given an opportunity to visit any three (3) places in the whole world, I'd love to go to Australia, Singapore, and Brunei, together with my husband and our daughter. You are particularly concerned with an Asian country so I'd have to skip Australia this time. With Singapore, I have heard many nice views about this country; like, this place is noted for cleanliness and discipline, among others. I'd love to see the famous Sentosa for myself. I believe this country also has a bird sanctuary or what they call the Jurong Bird Park. I hope your parents will like that. About Brunei, I wanted to see this country just so I could place myself in the shoes of one of my favorite international artists because this is his hometown, although he works in another country. But I still don't have a particular spot there in mind. If your parents are fond of shopping, I guess HongKong is a great place to go to. As they say, this country is a "shopper's paradise". Anyway, I'm from the Philippines and I do hope you and your parents will have a safe and enjoyable trip when you visit Asia. Anyway, I do wish I could travel to these three (3) countries, at the very least. I'll cross my fingers.

If you visit Korea I would suggest going jeju. The little island is a big resort area and a lot of Korean/ other celebrities go there so you might get see some celebrities. If you dont want to go to a resort type area and want to do some good cultural experience go to the capital, Seoul. Seoul is a big city that has shopping, culture,a u.s military base, attractions, and a lot more. If you dont wish to visit Korea then I would suggest go try and visit new zealand. i dont know why I thought of it but I did because they have a lot of grass areas, beaches, and probably more. You could probably find a lot of the lord of the rings and other movie sites if you wanted to.
