Can You Remember Any Of Your Teachers? Good Or Bad Influence On You?

I remember many of my teachers. The first school I attended was Layton Primary School for Infants and Juniors and the Secondary School was Collegiate High School, both of which still exist today. Anyway, one teacher in the Juniors that had a lasting impression on me was a lady called Miss Gregson. Remember that photo of Lady Di with a see-through skirt on, holding those two toddlers at a nursery or something? That image (facially) reminds me of Miss Gregson. She was a very sweet teacher, never raised her voice and was miles younger than the other teachers in the school, so little ones could relate to her and her to them. She taught everything but making things was the most fun as she would encourage everyone. There was lots of laughter in her classes. She had no favourites. I remember making a Santa Claus that had lots of dangly bits (had it for years) plus a large, pointy hat that was in Medieval style. Considering I thought I was rubbish at making things Miss Gregson brought out the best in us all. She was responsible for me taking up reading A LOT as she read both Watership Down and The Hobbit to us in class. The better behaved we were the more she would read to us. She really was ace. Another teacher in Junior School was Miss Brown and she didn't like boys. I remember her mad red, curly hair and the fact that she spat when she spoke due to her buck teeth. She also had very long, painted finger nails which cut into boys' flesh when she smacked their bare bottoms across her knee. Seriously, she did do this but anything goes in the 70s eh? She certainly wouldn't get away with that behaviour now! At Senior School the teacher that I remember the most was Mr Dempsey. Now, this guy taught Physics, a subject I could not fathom at all. However, there was a good reason for this. In class the girls would sit at a bench at the front and the boys towards the back. Mr Dempsey would face us with a large bench in front of him that ran lengthways across the room like ours did. We sat on stools, he stood up. Anyway, guess what he used to do so none of the girls could concentrate on their work? He used to REST HIS BALLS ON THE BENCH! Yes, he did my friends. Just stand there and move backwards and forwards laying his balls to rest. He was rather well-hung in his tight trousers as well. For impressionable 14 year old girls this was quite a sight. We giggled constantly throughout his lessons, learned nothing but I really don't think he realised what he was doing. There was nothing "suggestive" about his behaviour. He just wanted to rest his balls for whatever reason. He looked a bit like Timothy Dalton and had a dimple in his chin just like him. It's amazing what we can remember isn't it friends? Have any teachers been a good or bad influence on you? I would love to know your views. By the way there was another Physics teacher (his name eludes me) that, whenever he turned to write something on the blackboard one of the lads would throw something at him. I suppose it made a change from other teachers throwing stuff at them lol but the poor guy had to leave, he was so stressed! I have just remembered another teacher but not her name, unfortunately. She taught Art in the 6th Form building at Collegiate but I was about 15 at the time. Anyway, I really was NO GOOD at Art but she could not teach properly so none of us were any good at Art. The whole class learned nothing. We had to draw flowers but had no clue what she meant about "light and dark" and during the Art Exam I remember vividly Andrew Schofield suddenly deciding he wasn't going to pass the Exam so proceeded to move his brush in rapid motion up and down the paper. In other words he was trashing his work! The teacher just went round us all, placed her hand on Andrew's shoulder and exclaimed, "Well done!" She knew full well that none of us would pass our Art Exam..and we didn't.. we all got a "U" which stands for "Unclassified!" Haha!

LOL!!! WUahuahuahua about the one you described as Mr Dempsey.. Those are vividly described, I enjoy reading this!! LOL.. I wish school was as fun as yours.. the teachers, that is. Mine was a pretty much average school with lots of teachers totally focused on academics. They would make sure all of us don't slacken and keep on pushing ourselves for good grades. There were one or two whom I remember as being neurotics, weirdos and a whole lot more, but then again, those are labels given by us students behind their backs, of course, LOL. You mentioned your school as primary school.. here we label it like that too, instead of high school.

Well, Primary AND Secondary actually lol. Mr Dempsey was from the Secondary School and I never learned a thing about Physics. Another lesson that bored me rigid was Chemistry. I must've been the only person in class to be frightened of bunsen burners, everyone else loved them!

we used to have a 6th grade math teacher that picked his nose with the board pointer. he thought he was being swift about it too. my 3rd grade teacher had a white beehive in the 70's (already out of fashion by then)and orange orange skin.really bad fake tan.scary woman. my fondest memory of a teacher was actually my very first-the kindergarten teacher. she was always friendly and smiling.never yelled like some of the psychos in the upper grades.

Oh my God, how gross! Fancy picking his nose like that. I'm trying not to think about it as it might put me off my tea lol. Mmm, white beehive and orange skin eh? Lovely! Haha! It's good that your memory goes so far back to your kindergarten days. I'm often amazed at how far my memory goes back too.

Yeah I can remember my headteacher in the senior school very well.He was a dwarf single man at that time. And we were his first graduating class students. He was always so strict with us that we dared not to make him angry. But sometimes he gave us some entertainment as watching a movie using his computer. His responsibility really impressed me.Though he's so severe,I think most of us still like to express the gratitude to him~

this is a greate topic, and which indeed reminds me a lot about my schoole life,of course get a lot of teachers involved. The most infulenced teacher for me is mr Li,who is a mathematics teacher in high school,i just don't know how he can thinks of tons of unique apporoch to help pupils understand one question or theorem, and all of the classmates just like his class, plus at that time I am the mointor of the class and so we have much chance to get touch with each other, and he instilled good virture into my life,modest,rigorous...I just miss him so much. BTW,have a nice day...

Well the teacher that i best remember is Ms. Tanova. She taught me from 5th to 7th grade and was leading the mathematics class. Although i wasn't the best at math she always had time to try to explain and teach you whatever you didn't know. However her methods were a bit strange and during class there was quite a lot of yelling at the boys and girls who didn't listen carefully. At that time all of us hated her, but after i graduated from that school i realized how much she had done to teach us discipline and most importantly maths. Haven't seen her since then, but our old class is considering paying her a visit this year so we can thank her of the many great things which she taught us. In conclusion i would say that she is one of the persons who had a big influence in my life alongside with my family and closest friends.

Teachers like that are amazing aren't they? She must be good for so many of you wanting to pay her a visit to thank her..that's really sweet, I hope it happens. I suppose teachers have to shout at times to get their point across (especially if their class is becoming unruly) and I really don't know how Miss Gregson did it as she NEVER shouted at ANYBODY and yet the class were always impeccably behaved. She must have rewarded us in some way..like more time to get some reading in as she ALWAYS read brilliant books.

I can remember, pretty much all of the teachers that I Have had in my life. The ones that actually made an impact on my life stay fresher in my mind than others. I grew up in a city that was still dealing with a lot of raciscm, so for me, being a young african american, it was difficult at times. When the computer mouse made it's way into school classrooms, we began learning basic computer operations. Now I had already had experience with computers. I remeber being in class and opening the bottom of the mouse to see how it worked, and that's when I discovered the little ball inside of it. As I was trying to put the device back together, teh teacher came over to me and made a big fuss about it. He even accused me o trying to stael the ball. I took a big offense to that, not to mention the referral to the school principal, the landed me on suspension. How can something so innocent turn into something so drastic. I had many teachers that would rather suspend the student than try and help or counsel. Maybe that was just my luck.

Do you know something? I've lost count of the times I've taken my mouse apart so I could see what was inside it...usually the ball as you describe. You were well within your rights to do that too as one is supposed to open it up to clean it periodically. Yes, your teacher definitely was heavy handed in her approach to you taking the mouse apart. It's not as though it's a big job putting it together is it? And, as for accusing you of trying to steal the ball, well, that is well out of order my friend. Welcome to MyLot and thanks for sharing that with us.

Hi Janey! You must have had a wonderful experience in school. The one teacher I remembered most was the one who taught us for four years in secondary school. A few years later while in college I met him again as he was doing his masters. The line that used to divide us as a teacher and a pupil suddenly vanished. We instantly became friends and a good friend for that. We have since taken on different paths of life. But it feels good to have been given the opportunity. Have a nice day!

What a lovely story, thanks for sharing! I often wonder what happened to Miss Gregson. She was very young when she taught us so I reckon she'll only be in her 60s..maybe late 50s. I bet she got married and had lots of children because she was so good with them.

I surely remembered my teachers. They all teach me many things. My chemistry teacher,a optimistic man,who usually smiled to us used to say "a slight smile to the waves“?Our physicial teacher told us "be a wise man".The biological teacher teached us "take good care of yourselves".Our chinese teacher have said "live a poetic life".Every teacher is just like a different book which have different meanings. They all impresed me forever.
