How many of you willing to drink tap water, or you rather buy bottled water?

Here is a curious question I want to ask your guys. In America, I saw some people occasionally drink tap water through their faucet, but not very often. Most people rather purchase bottled water in bunch through SAM's club or retail stores. But, is there really a purity difference? Is tap water really that dangerous, we won't know? From recent ads, I saw some company really selling this filtration device, so you can drink tap water safely, more like bottled water. In this case, it will save a bunch of your money, don't you think? In another argument about bottled water is that, you might waste a lot of those plastic bottle for those bottled water product. Increasing landfill for the plastic garbage. So, what is your opinion on this one?

Hi kingparker~ I live in NYS and I use tap water! The water where I live seems filtered enough and I have been drinking it all my life. It tastes fine. I drink alot of diet soda and fill up the smaller bottles with tap water and put them in my refrigerator. I almost never buy bottled water.

That is a smart way doing it. I would do the same like you. Come on, we can save a lot of money from doing it. Why bother right?

I live in a US town on the border of Mexico, and I only drink the tap water on an emergency basis. As far as water quality is concerned, I might as well be living in Mexico. I use it for dishwashing, bathing, & cleaning, but NEVER drinking. When I brush my teeth, I turn the water on & it smells like a sewer. Other times it smells like aquarium water (and I wouldn't drink that either)! You have to filter the tap water here at least twice before it loses the horrible taste & smell. I grew up on aquifer water and drink it from the tap whenever I'm in my hometown. Really, any other kind of tap water is fine, too. In this and other border towns buying bottled water is a part of local life.

I stay away from little bottles of water, purchasing them when I have no other choice. I recycle by filling my own bottles with water. There is a place around the corner which sells it for 15 cents a gallon. About 3 times a year, I throw out those bottles and buy new ones. I even use the small bottles I buy to refill and put in the frig at work. I feel like I'm doing my part to help the environment and bring down the high cost of using bottled water.

tap water is good, gives something for your teeth also...while bottled water takes that out. Only time we take bottled water is when we need to bring it somewhere.

I live in a ton of about 78 people. Our water is from a town well and it has been shown to cause cancer. It ranks 28% purity rating with 100% of course, being the best. There is a film that develops on the top of the water when cooking or mixing the water with things. According the water man that tested the water that is from sediments that seep through the ground, often found in wells that are not deep enough and near farm animals. Hence the in town cow found around here. So, no not all tap water is safe to drink. Personally I bottled water but not the packs but big 5 gallons jugs that you can fill up at walmart. They are reusable and do not fill up the land minds. I use this water for everything expect washing. I have thought about a filter system but many do not remove everything in water as bad as ours is. However if you live in a normal city, then there should be no reason to by those water bottles. You use tap, filters and get a reusable bottle with a push close lid.

For the most part in the US the water is safe. I only buy bottled water for convenience if I am traveling. I actually prefer the taste of my tap water. I have tried the various filtration pitchers and find them just to be a bother. Water quality reports are public records and you can get the information about your local conditions. I have some plastic containers that I will fill and I also have a stainless steel water bottle that I can carry when I go places, if I remember to fill it in advance.

Hi kingparker, the tap water supplied in my country is not safe to take it directly fresh from the faucet. For excessive chlorine is added to it. We could test the content of the water by using chlorine testing solution. We could see the tap water turns to yellowish after stirring with the drops of tester. Therefore those who could afford mainly would fix a filtration device. For the purpose of health and safety we do purchase a set of filtration device to acquire clean and healthy water that free from the chlorine as well as germs. The water fresh from the faucet is safe to take straight away. It taste fine as well compared to the normal tap water. I'm used to drink it fresh from the faucet. But my husband and his sister still prefer to take it boiled. We realize that it is not health to take water from plastic bottle. Though we have Tupperware products which is believed to be safe to hold water even the content is scorching hot. We prefer to use glass container and never bother it's rather heavier and a bit bulky as well Happy posting and have a nice day

As usual money is the bottom line here, the motivator. Some people will believe anything and so they don't have a problem shelling out for bottled water or a filtering system. They can then brag about these things to their friends. It's all quite ridiculous because we all pay rates and part of those rates go to making our water safe to drink.

I never buy bottled water. but I'm in the UK, and tap water is safe to drink here. as the tap water is safe, it seems ridiculous to waste money and resources, and food miles on plastic bottles of water.

In U.S. here, I guess most people afraid of using tap water because of unknown danger. But the filtration device can help filter those impurity substance. So, it is worth the risk, isn't it?

This is such a bad subject for me. I lived with a demented women for three months that had to have bottled water. She couldn't make her coffee in the morning if she didn't have bottled water. I couldn't believe it! If a person has a problem with faucet type water get a filter! these companies that bottle the 'bottled water' lie about where it is bottled and all of the rest of the information on it. THINK ABOUT IT! If there was a truckers strike what would these people do if the bottle water couldn't get to you??

i drink tap water all the time. you are better of drinking tap water. that's because they have to go thru a bunch of test before they allow the tap water to come into your home. they are not subject to the same kind of testing for bottled water. besides all of those plastic bottles laying around.

I actually don't have a problem drinking the water out of the tap here. It is actually pretty good water, but I have been to places where the water tasted really bad, and when I find myself in a place where the water tastes bad, I will go to the closest store and buy a case of bottled water to use while I am there.

There is nothing wrong with drinking tap water, people cook with in and fill their ice trays (if they have to) and when you make tea or lemonade or kool-aid you use tap water because its right there. The reason people drink bottled water is because its convenient and you can take it with you. Also, you can add stuff to it via a drop in or something similar to flavor the water.

I always have drank water from the tap. That is just the way I have done anything. Plus, it is always much cheaper to get water straight from the tap, at least from my experiences. Tap water is just something that I have acquire a taste for. Bottled water is merely okay but there is just something about it that tastes a bit off. I guess there are certain minerals in bottled water that do not really set well with me. Some people cannot drink water out of the tap however, so I guess its really what works best for you. Either can be an acquired test. I just rather not go and get something that I can pretty much get at home. Plus, all of those bottles can just pile up a lot of the time and there is a lot of unneeded rubbish.

Water filters - Best thing is to boil water before consuming it.
While I was in UAE, I used to buy bottled water. Companies supplying these water bottles refill them and they are back in circulation again. They remain in use as long as they are usable. We do not have to discard them. The company supplying these bottles does it. Tap water is not potable at all. They come desalinated and we can use it only for purposes other than drinking. In India, it falls expensive. Drinking water is mostly impure, which might contain dangerous germs. People who cannot afford water purifier of course drink it neat but those who can afford mostly use water purifiers. I think it can take care of the suspended impurities but to what extent it can take care of the germs is still debatable. Best thing is to boil water before consuming it.
