usually it's my friends only who text me but i get such messages also and some of them turn to be very old friends and some other turn out to be wrong numbers which ii hate a lot. However i have taken a good number now so i believe people won't make mistakes while calling my number.

I believe that some people also used to random a numbers then they will give a miss call and if that number rang, then thats the time that they will send a message.

if the person seems nice and just wants a friend i will reply sure^^ maybe it was a friend of mine that gave the number and want me to meet someone sweet but if the person is rude or teasing me sure i wont answer more. it happened to me before and i really hated it and i didnt want to answer more. anyway the person felt tired of my despise and stopped it :( it happened bcs i put an announce in a newspaper offering myself to work and a lot of perverts called and even one sent me sms :(

ma friends often..fool me with prank calls...
its like a hobby among teens to get his pals number and make calls / texts him telling that the caller/sender is a girl....and guys often fall into such jokes..
personally I'll just ignore the texts..but the calls we have to attend it know..may be its an urgent one..may be a prank...
tell you what I don't get enough time to read the texts even from ma pals..
400-500 some times more a day...even ma mobile gets hung several times..
thanks for sharing...
have a great day/night........

well we use to do it not for text but for calls. We have a auto dialer program used and the calls reached in the hundreds. Well we are in our class so phones really are not allowed

I rarely have people text me. I'd rather have them call. but if someone texted me and I didn't know who they were, I'd simply ask. If they replied and I still didn't know who they were, I'd tell them they had the wrong number. If they continued to text, I'd go to my cellular company and have the number blocked. Easy as that.

I have gotten Texts before from unknown senders. Most of the time its just a long lost friend who just found my number and decided to talk. But there are those rare occasions where its just a wrong number.

nah I don't waste my text credits on people I don't even know. my initial question is "what's your name" if the number is an unknown number...and if i can sense a prankster or a tripper trying to play games or tricks on me, they'll never get another text from me. even if they're that persistent. If they really try to annoy me on purpose, i would just buy a new sim card and get a new number. that easy. i don't mind changing numbers.

I too sometimes get this messages and calls to unknow phone numbers. When I receive them I usually send back a message with text: Who are you? If I do not receive a message back with answer then I do nothing. Usually It is people who want to joke with people and then sweet lough. Sometimes they are unknow people I just wonder where they get my number. I had a situation I buy new mobile phone and I change my number. I give my number to two people who is very reliable, but I receive unknow calls. I pick up a phone and say yes they ask my name and then say It is a misstake sorry.

well the scam text messages are really rampant here. but thankfully i only receive a few in a year or so. But my fathers phone received these kinds of text almost everyday. And some even replied when my father is asking some silly questions.

When I was younger, I would always try to know who they are.
But now I dont bother anymore. If they dont want to properly introduce their selves its their problem. I dont have time to play guess who.

so what was your number...?
..jk lol
Anyways, if someone unknown texted me, I'll ask them who they are. Only ONCE! If they don't answer the question, I'm not gonna bother texting back to them, or even reading what they have to say. Block them out completly.

I have a blackberry from Verizon and I have the ability to block unwanted text. I would recommend that with ones that are being persistent. If you do not think or know if you have call block, call your provider. Most do.

well yes i have a phone that will block them but sometimes you know that the unknown person knows you but just playing with you. I think it would meaner ( if this is a word) to just block them all together

oh, my husband hates it so much whenever he hears me saying I received text from an unknown person.
I change my phone and sadly not all contacts have been transferred to the new unit so some of the messages don't show the sender's name anymore. But i know if I knew him. I only have few texters. I'd ask fr the name of course. If it is just from someone who is fooling around, I am just ignoring the text. My way of thinking is that if it is important he will text or call me but if not then it is not really that important.
Sometimes i do get missed sent messages. If the content is important, I am texting back the sender telling him he missed sent a message so he can send it to the proper party. Again, if it is nonsense, I don't bother do anything at all.

Sometimes we share our number and do not store others, its possible that someone is texting me and I do not know him. For me if its a promotional message will be ignored for sure, If message is personal or looking for any help or suggestion, definitely I will try to find out the source of message and reach to the person.

Just ignore them and never entertain them. Now a days it is difficult to tell whether the ones saying in need for textmates are real. As you may know txt messages had been used as a tool for crime. Just ignore them , erase the message even if they text you. Eventually they would get tired and stop.

I am lucky not to receive too many like this but from time to time I have. It turns out it a friend who changed their number but still has mine. So depending on the topic I may ignore it until that person is revealed.
Although out of curiosity I have replied but never let off that I do not know who that person is. One time I did however text back a question mark and the person instantly knew I didn't know who they where and immediately replied back saying it is so and so.
