I am also from India and here the problem is that each state has its own regional language, plus our national language Hindi. We use english for official purposes and rarely speak english.I think this is the main reason for lack of fluency.I think mylot is a nice place to improve our english and communication skill. Here we can duscuss all matters with out any hesitation. After joining this site,i improved my english a lot.

It's still easy for an Indian to learn English as it is your 2nd language. But in Bangladesh it's very difficult, though govt. has taken many steps to improve the education system based on English. So i hope next generation won't face this problem any more.

One of the many reasons (other than making extra money LOL) why I join mylot is too improve my English. Even though I was a former English teacher,I still need to polish up and improve my English as English is my second language. So I guess you have made a good choice for joining mylot. Other than giving comments, you can also read comments from others and learn new words to add into your vocabulary knowledge. What important is never give up and continue learning. Happy mylotting..

I have the same problem. As I'm from Bangladesh so English it's very difficult for me to speak. But it is true that we can't live without speaking English. I'm a university student and it is obviously English medium. It's hard to compete with mates who have English medium background.
We know the basic English but the problem creates when we try to communicate. Chatting or participating in discussions can improve your writing skill but speaking skill is way different from writing. Like I can write but when try to speak I get nerves. So i think voice chat is a good option but only if you get a good company. Try to speak English with your friends, classmates..family members too.
There's some speaking software i guess. Buy them or download from internet and practice at home if you feel shy. I don't know about India but here we have some good speaking English courses offered by different school. If this option is available there then join the course and it'll help you improve your speaking skills while talking with other students.
And lastly I'll recommend you to see English movies. Watch Star movies, HBO, Zee studio, MM1, MM2....it'll help you to understand basic communicative English and their uses. When you'll be familiar with the words and the ways to express your thoughts in English it'll be easier for you to execute during verbal conversation. And no need to mention that everything depends on practice. So don't be afraid...be confident..make a step..if you have determination to lean speaking English..it won't be difficult for you for long.....Good luck!!
