To Quit or Not to Quit?

Philippines
July 12, 2010 12:14am CST
Now a days many independent websites or blogs are promoting anti-facebook campaign. They were convincing as much as many FB user to stop using and permanently quit their FB account. Their main concern was to protect private and personal information of web users because it cause FB doesn't respect user's personal data and the future of the web. Recently they announced May 31, 2010 as the Quit Facebook Day and some user's said and promised to quit and stop their Facebook on that date. There are lots of Social networking websites in the entire web but FB dominates them all with more than 350 million users around the world. Whether your an FB on non-FB user, what can be the possible intentions of this fast growing social network site? How doe's it affect our daily life and Doe's it really help?.

I have a FB account also, which I very seldom visit anymore. I could live without it as I have caught up with a great number of old friends and family. I did you it wisely to the point that I can reach them easily if I were not on FB permanently, so I do not think I would feel a loss. By the way from my understanding it will be very soon but in order to maintain a FB account you are going to have to pay for it monthly. So their numbers I am sure will drop drastically.

Yes it is you can ask many people on here they will reply the same, it was in the news not too long ago. Somehow they think that people love it so much they will be willing to pay for it. I am sure it will be a cheap intro rate then they get ya!

I have a facebook account and have set all my details to private but unfortunately some can still send me request because on of my friends is linked with that person. I really hate facebook when it comes to privacy. I don't really feel it is secure because all the details are posted to facebook and it can even be an instrument for crimes. Although facebook helps us to connect with our friends I still don't post that much information there. I try to keep my information secret and not putting my work details, my birthday details , my full name and so on and so forth so that it can't be use without my knowledge.

I forgot to add that even though we have these kind of issues still there are some reasons not to quit facebook just make sure that the information you are giving are kept secret and don't post all the details of what you are doing in there for safety purposes.

I think their is nothing wrong in having an account in fb its a matter of how you use it and how do you respond to people with other fb accounts... just make sure you know ur limitations and dont give out all your personal information in fb..

I'm an FB user. I'm not much worried about it because I don't have much information in me that is, I think, beneficial to them.LOL But if there's really a need to quit facebook because it is more of a threat than a friendly site, I would not mind giving up my account in a blink of an eye. My German friend doesn't want to open an FB account. I was able to convince him to join sites where we can share updates with each other, he did, but not with facebook-ing.He disclosed to me same information and he is very strong willed not to join FB. As a matter of fact, he's not into joining so many sites...LOL

The user's itself is making problems on facebook.! It's not to quit on facebook but find ways to stop these user's ( people ) to stop their bad doings there in facebook, right? I am not promoting facebook but the way you said, I see clearly that the problem there was the user's itself! On facebook as long as you don't expose everything on your personal data..I guess you are safe there to use it.

I don't have an FB account but I don't think I will quit using an FB unless they would ask my credit card numbers and bank accounts.

FB is growing fast due to the publicity and the features they have....many people i have seen are addicted to the games on FB, farmville, fishville, petville, and a few other ville's. Fb has also been getting a lot of publicity due to celebrities having their accounts on it. There is a huge fam=n following these people. And also soem of the social networking sites are banned in some of the countries...and thats why FB is picking up.

Yeah, i do not use facebook frequently but I was addict for one time(Frankly speaking no social site can keep me addicted for more than 15 days). I can see now some sites are using Facebook as a open ID that's why it is necessary to have a Facebook account and it can be opened with minimum personal details, so I don't oppose FB. Happy myloting..

I wouldn't give it much thought. Just live and be happy. Things must and always do change.

In my opinion, there is no appropriate for Facebook just yet. The solution to the danger of unprotected personal data is not to put any up in the first place.

hello there, For me facebook has become the "it thing" on online world especially in social networking. I can't imagine going back to the world where the only form of communication would be through text, im's and instant messaging. And trying out other social networking site such as friendster and Orkut is not just enough. Facebook offers a number of activities online and it is normal that other competitors would find reason for people not to be there anymore. It always comes down to proper socializing and that we can't blame any networking site for crazy and bazaar thing happening online. I can't quit FB at the moment since now most of my friends and colleague are there. It is same as mylot...LOL... seriously...I can't quit both mylot and FB.

I dont care about it's security issues. I don't use it that much lately. Before I was addicted to it, especially the games. But now I got tired of it. I just check it once in awhile for new updates from my friends or if any friends are online to chat. About social networks helping us or not? Yes it does. I found long lost friends using facebook.

Honestly, I use FB only for playing games, for past time. And now I'm even tired opening my FB. So I don't care about this issue.
