In my country we a have a celebration called "Fastelavn". On that day the children dress up and walk from door to door while they sing a special song. In return they receive money and sometimes candy.
On the day of Fastelavn the children also have a kind of game where they hit a barrrel, that is called "knocking the cat out of the barrel", because in the old days there was a real cat inside the barrel! Fortuneately that is no longer allowed and now the barrel is usually filled with candy and raisins instead. The children hit the barrel one at a time and the child who makes the buttom of the barrel fall out wins the competition. The reward is a crown that is placed on the child's head.
Another fastelavn tradition is the "fastelavnsris" which is a decorated tree branch filled with candy. When I was a child Fastelavn was my favourite celebration. My mother wouldn't let me walk from door to door and collect money, because she considered it begging, but I always participated in the other games and I always received candy from my mother.
What was your favourite celebration when you were a child? What is your favourtie celebration or holiday today?

Yes, it is very nice when the entire family is together. When I was a child I always celebrated Christmas Eve with my entire family: My parents, my brother, my grandparents, my aunts, my uncles, my cousins, my cousins' children etc. and it was always a lot of fun.

I agree with that. The time that I spend with my family and my friends is one of the things that I love about christmas. When I was a child. The presents were the most important thing I still like to give and receive presents, but it is not that important to me. The time that I spend with my family the real gift!

But I really have to say that I so love New Year Celebration, There's something about new year that makes it really special in my FAmily. I always remember that every year all of us my family my uncle and everyone in my father's side, get together at a certain house every year. Maybe my uncle's , then our's on the following year.. It was so fun.. We are so many and I am so proud to say that everyone in our family participate with the games and all those fun stuffs,

Your New Year celebrations sound like a lot of fun. I like New Year's Eve as well. There is always a special kind of atmosphere that night and I like that. My parents and some of their friends have celebrated New Year's Eve together for almost 35 years. Their children are about my age and we always had a great time together. I have many happy memories from those years.

My favorite celebration when I was a child was Christmas. It was the time when I expect kids and we as a family usually go to a party where my father works. Its really fun and exciting and I am always looking forward to such event.

I also loved christmas when I was a child. We usually went to couple of different christmas parties or "christmas lunches" as we call it in my country. A christmas lunch is a party where we eat the traditional christmas food, talk and have fun. The place where my father worked always arranged one of those parties, and it was a lot of fun, my brother and I always looked forward to those parties.

I like New Year's Eve, too. In my country we don't eat at midnight, we usually eat at 6 or 7 p.m., and at midnight we drink champagne and watch the fireworks. When the fireworks are finished we return to the houses and drink coffee and eat a special kind of cake called "kransekage". That is very delicious

I like New Year's Eve too . I think this is the most important festival in a year . In that day , my family members will be reunited in order to celebrate this festival . We usually eat dinner at 6 P.m together , but at midnight , we still have a second eating . We eat snack , watch TV , talk some interesting things and so on . Everyone is happy in every New Year's Eve . Do you think so ?

When I was a child I was introduced to a May Day activity that I really enjoyed. I have always loved doing crafts. In my school that year we all made "May Baskets". They were little baskets we filled with artifical flowers we had made. We decorated the baskets. The flowers were then put in the basket. We thought of someone we knew who would really love to get a little something special. Then we were to hang the basket on their door without anyone knowing on the first of May. When the person who got the basket acknowledged getting it and wondered who gave it to them I felt really good that I had secretly made someone else feel good as well.

Thanks for your response. I have never heard about May baskets before, but it sounds like a very nice tradition. I also like to do different kinds of crafts and I like the idea of surpricing people, and doing something nice for others without telling them who is was from. We don't have a tradition like that in my country, where are you from?

I also liked christmas when I was a child. Actually I still like it, but I am less interested in the presents now. Today it is much more important to me to spend some time with my family.

When I was still a child my favorite celebration is Christmas. I'm excited with all the gifts I get from my parents, relatives, siblings, friends and from Santa Claus. I used to believe there's really Santa Claus when I was still a child until the age of 11 or 12 I think. My brother, sister and I would hang our socks. Come morning after Christmas eve we would excitedly check what's inside our socks.

I also believed in Santa Claus when I was a child. One year my older cousin dressed up as Santa Claus, and I didn't recognize him at all, I really thought that Santa Claus had come for a visit. In my country we don't use socks and we always open the presents on Christmas Eve when we have had our christmas dinner. In my family the youngest person opens the first present, and that is my brother

I am also a christian and christmas is an important holiday in my country. I love spending time with my family, singing the christmas carols, exchanging gifts etc.
