English Referee Howard Webb took his name in the history when he booked 13 players with total no of 14 yellow cards with one player booked twice then a red card.
So, he booked highest number of players in a World Cup Final. Previous record was 6 players in 1986 final between Argentina and Germany.

Webb was unlucky. FIFA chose him because of his repuatation for keeping control of matches and 22 players on the pitch.
But the Dutch were uncontrollable, but he still didn't want to send anyone off, at least in the first half.
Then he tried to make up for it by giving the Spanish every opportunity to score.

What the referee, Webb from England can do if the players came down to play American Version of Football or Rugby style Football to present us !!
Within their fight for yellow cards, they even forgot to play football or scoring a goal. I am still lucky that match was finished at that time !! If Webb took more control of the game, we would be able to watch much better game.

I think he showed quite a fewer red cards than he should have shown. I think Webb lost the control of the match in his endeavor to keep all 22 players on the pitch. I thought De Jong should have got marching orders for stamping Alonso on the chest. I though Van Bommel should have got red for persistent fouling. I thought Robben should have got second yellow and a red for kicking the ball in an attempt to time wasting. I though Puyol should have got a red for the rugby tackly on Robben.
So that is 4 red cards that he did not give!! Can you have a more uglier match?
Cheers!

Yes, it was so ugliest football match that i still could not believe that it was the World Cup Final match. But the English Referee knew that he was refereeing on a World Cup Final. So, might be he did not like that the match will end in poor note due to his marching order. But at last when he showed one and only RED in the match, he had nothing to do except double yellow.
You are correct that there was a possibility to open more RED cards but he did not like it.

At that time i was always checking that which players did not receive any yellow card and who could tackle the speedy Spanish Attacks to defend their team. Lots of defenders, midfielders and blockers got one yellow card each.
Horrible, Most Unfair Final in my life !!
