this is the second time i have heard this statement this week and from two different areas too. do you agree with this statement?
i actually do not because i think some people are just too analytical and perhaps not creative enough to be an artist. what do you think?

I agree, everyone actually as an artistic flare but most people put themselves down. Given the chance, I honestly think most people would improve especially if they thought their drawings wasn't very good. Possible a good singer, writer or creative with recording.
There's many ways for people to be artistic and when someone says that they're not, then generally I wonder what they've tried.

I actually tend to actually agree with this statement. The reason that I feel this way is because I tend to believe that there is an art to everything that we do in our lives. I am an artist in that I create graphic arts in the form of digital scrapbooks. I'm a photographer. And even though a lot of people may not consider writing to be an art, I do consider it to be an art, and I'm happy to say that I am involved in that art as well.

Honestly, there are those who can crunch numbers in such a way as to seem to be an art form. Not one I can do or really understand, but they can do it.
I do agree, that everyone can be an artist, its just that sometimes their art takes a form that others might not see as art...

I had a teacher who used to say that sentence all the time, but I think that there are many people who aren't interested in art. When some of my classmates complained that they couldn't paint, my teacher usually told them "that anyone can paint", and that participation is more important than the quality of the paintings. But I think that people can be creative in many other ways than art, and some people have other strengths than art for instanse science or technical subjects.

Everyone is creative in their own way. Even analytical people have to be able to think creatively to solve problems. Art is all encompassing and not something that you can put into a neat little box and classify as one thing. What is every day and functional to one person (such as a quilt) is high art to another (such as a collector). Don't get so hung up on labels.

I believe it depends on your personal definitions or philosophies of art and how each is applied to a specific project.
Take paint on a wall, for example. Some would describe it as having clean, flat lines. Having nothing else on it can indicate plainness as when others would say, "It's a wall. It is nothing."
I consider it minimalistic. *shrug* It's a clean palette for me.
When the paint begins peeling, it may be considered "not worthy" by some. Others will use that view and take pictures of it and call it photographic art. Still others would ask, "Why would you take a picture of THAT?"
It's all in perspective. Some just appreciate certain perspectives (and even marketing techniques, which can be artistic in themselves) more than others.
On the flip side to this... NO ONE is an artist.
