Do you believe in this? What do you do to help the environment? According to the data from the DENR, 80 percent of the Philippines was covered with forests in 1900. The country's forested areas have decreased tremendously from 7.2 million hectares 1918 to only 7.2 million hectares at present. This is really a sad situation for our environment. Indiscriminate cutting of trees in watersheds has caused massive soil erosion, which has led to perennial flooding in many part of the country. Especially now that it is already rainy season in our country. Needless to say, air pollution levels in our big cities have reached alarming, all-time high. We need millions of trees in this case to absorb excessive carbon from vehicles and factories, which worsens global warming. Trees are our only source of strength against the wrath of nature. That's why even if we just have small area in our backyard, I try to plant some trees to be able to help our environment in my own little ways.

In order to preserve the environment, trees have to be planted even how small the area is. Let us also help preserve trees by being vigilant, it means to inform the authorities of the illegal loggers in the community. Illegal loggers, small or big, should be reprimanded by planting trees. They should not be granted bail if they will not plant trees.

Yes. Illegal loggers are the culprit why there were so many landslides and soil erosions happening in our country. After cutting so many trees they wont even plant trees to replace it. They will just do it for their own interests without thinking about the effects to the environment and the people around it. We have law regarding it, but then again, the implementation is poor.

I do agree with you that trees are the source of strength against the wrath of nature. Come rainy season, the trees will greatly help seep the water from the ground. Let us all help plant more trees.
