Do the ASCPA and Humane Society Commercials Make You Cry?

Since I am out for the summer, I have been watching a little more TV than normal and I have been watching channels I don't normally watch. Therefore, I have run into the Humane Society and ASCPA commercials where they show abused and neglected animals in hopes that you the viewer will send them money to help rescue animals. Every time I see either one of those commercials it makes me cry and want to help those poor little kitties, there is one kitty especially that you just want to reach out and help, because he/she looks so pitiful and lost. I also noticed that on the Humane Society that they show more dogs then cats but the ASCPA is pretty fair in their cats vs dogs showings. Have you seen these commercials? What do you think of them? Do You donate to either of these charities? I actually donated to both of them before I started seeing the sad commercials.

Yes. I can't watch them. I can't ever go to the Humane Society; it tears me up emotionally for many weeks. Instead, I adopt strays & neuter them, & try to chip in money to no-kill or catch/neuter/release programs when possible. And all the while, I pray God takes care of them, as I can't. St. Martin de Porres is especially good with animals. Maggiepie “The cost of freedom is always high, but Americans have always paid it. And one path we shall never choose, & that is the path of surrender, or submission.” ~ John Fitzgerald Kennedy

I know they just tear you up don't they. I want to volunteer at a local no kill shelter. I know it will be hard for me to see those kitties there but they need love and attention to and I like helping cats who are less fortunate than mine.

oh god, just the song alone does.they couldn't have picked a better one. but usually the one-eyed kittens and other abused animals infuriate me to a degree, because i'd love to find who abused them and beat the living snot out of them. but,yes i donate.

I hear you. How could anyone abuse an animal. I think those people should be beaten soundly for abusing such helpless creatures. I agree the song is perfect. I am glad there are people out there who care, donate and volunteer.

I have donated to our local no kill animal shelter. Also, I have seen the commercials and they are sad. I don't watch them if I can avoid them. I have adopted an animal from our local shelter. It took her two years to warm up to us. I have also taken in stray cats! I have one that was abandoned by the neighbors. He lives on our front deck. I have one with 2 kittens in the barn. And I have one that I took to the vet and had him neutered so he could be in the house. He is 'helpless' not in that there is something wrong with him but that he is 'dependant' on you for everything. He is also very loveing. If anyone reading this doesn't have money to donate and would like to help the animals you can contact your local animal shelter and volunteer to help out. There are many things that you can do to help the animals and the shelter. Some donations can be made that won't cost you anything like old pillows and blankets that they can use for bedding. This is great if you have a child that wants a pet and you are not able to have one. Also, great for anyone that would like a animal but not able to have one.

Thanks for mentioning other ways people can help, sometimes we just don't think we have anything to offer when we really do. I have three cats. One came from a pet shop that took in strays and sold them for the price spent on their shots and food, one came from my local vets office and one I picked up at my brother's house. Freddie as my dad came to name cat number three, had been turned out by his owners who had declawed all four paws before hand. I flew Freddie back home with me (From Arkansas to California) and now he never lets me out of his sight when I am home. He is quite a loving cat and the best Christmas present that I got last year. For anyone reading if you can adopt a pet do, please don't purchase a purebred from a pet shop, and if you can't adopt then donate, and if you can't donate then volunteer. Thousands of pets are abused, abandoned or put down because they have no where to go, and we can change that one cat and dog at a time.

I refuse to watch those commercials anymore. As soon as they start, I hit "go back" on my remote and I stay on another channel for at least TWO MINUTES. All they do is show poor suffering animals. Many of them are in such bad shape, you have to assume the animal has to be destroyed. If they were to show an animal beign rescued and then show the same animal after it has been rehabilitated and adopted out to a loving family; I would be more inclined to watch and possibly give. The way these commercials are right now, the only people that would enjoy watching them are the same people that abuse animals in the first place!

I guess they are hoping to make you feel bad enough about the animals shown to donate money, its the same reason those commercials that want you to sponsor a child show a poor starving child drinking dirty water.

Yes I've seen them ; barely. I usually have to turn away. I do cry and I do donate to my local Humane Society. There are several no kill groups in my area which is great. About 9 months ago, my neighbor asked me to take 2 newborn stray kittens to the Humane Society. He didn't have a car to take them himself so he asked me. Well, that went over like a lead baloon. When I was holding the first little kitty and she nestled in my arm, I fell in love and already gave her a name - Gidget. Before her sister came to my home, I had her name picked out - Bridget. So, that was nine months ago and my Gidget and Bridget are still with me along with my other 7 : all strays. About a month ago, I had Gidget and Bridget spayed and vaccinated so they are officially mine. ( Actually they were officially mine a few short moments after holding the first baby ). I believe the commercials are very good as long as they get people to think about their own pets and how precious they are, and how truly deserving they are of having a good home where they are loved and cared for. I also think the commercials are good in that they get some people to open their heart and wallet to help make a difference. The ultimate beauty is when people open their home and adopt a pet. They are such wonderful company and I wouldn't want to live without them.

I start bawling the moment I see those commercials and then I have to go find one of my three cats and give them a hug. You have quite a houseful there with all your kitties. I am glad you can take care of all of them. I wouldn't part with my babies for all the money one could offer me.

I have seen the commercials and they make me cry because there so sad but I have never donated because I have never had the extra money. And if I had the money I think I would use it in another way to help animals lie adopting one or something.

I can never donate very much but I donate what I can. Maybe you can volunteer somewhere instead? I plan on volunteering at a local no kill shelter as soon as I can go through their orientation.
