White hairs cannot be plucked? Then what do you do about it?

Is it true that we should not plucked out white hairs? It is rumored that once you plucked one out, seven would grow in its place and soon your head would be overtaken by white strands . I have had white hairs since I was a teenager and I have always plucked them for convenience. I always wonder what people do with theirs. Are we supposed to cut them? I can't wield a pair of scissors over my own head! Also, it's not economical to dye them each time I discover a few...
Mylotters, what do you do with your white hairs, or do you not have them yet?

I have white hairs but not much, and I used to pluck them for convenience too. It's said to use sulfur soap as shampoo will do good to the hairs, and my father-in-law has insisted using sulfur soap for many years,he even have no white hairs although he has over 50 years now.I don't know it's his genes or the sulfur soap make this.Maybe you can have a try.

Well, there is only three things that you can do. 1. Color your hair. 2. Shave off all your hair, and 3. Just live with the hair that you have because that is really all that you can do.

Thank you for the best response. I have tried one and three myself. I was under a lot of stress at one point an parts of my hair began turning white, kind of like my favorite X-Man character. So, what I began doing was coloring my hair. Today, I have colored my hair in a long time. I am pretty much just learning to live with what I have. I have know people to shave off and pluck that grays, but they just grow back, so what is the point?
To me, it's YOUR hair. Do what you want to with your hair. If you don't like it how it is, change it, and you have to live with how it looks.

That's why you have X-men in your username....that's one of my favourite movies too..
With all these choices available, I guess I do not have to worry about it anymore. Thanks!

I have tried #1 and #3. For #2 I would have to think how I would look like and how I am going to keep it that way because once new hair grows out I would face the same problem again.

Many of us face the same problem .I face the same problem and any way we cannot avoid as it is also hereditery. Most of the time I feel fed up with my grey hair and I used henna for my hair in the initial stages when I had few here and there. Now I have plenty and started coloring my hair once in a month.Dyeing is the only way to cover our grey hair.Select a good brand of hair dye and start dyeing your hair. All the best and happy mylotting.

I heard henna and egg white works best for hair. Henna provides the colour while the egg white provides the nutrients.

Your body produces something called melanin. Melanin is what gives our hair (among other things) it's color. As we get older, our body produces less and less melanim, and so our hair gets gray, or white if you prefer. Melanin production is also affected by stress. The more stress, the less melanin.
It is NOT true that plucking them causes more to grow. It is not true that the root splits and more grow.
You either just put up with them or dye them. Not much else can be done.

Wow you gave us some scientific facts. I have also heard that not having enough sleep would also cause hair to turn white prematurely.

I also heard the similar rumor, so I won't pluck my white hair. I use the scissors to cut my white hair. But it is not easy for me to do it for myself. So sometimes I will ask my husband to help me.

If I cut out the white hairs like that, it will take me a long time.
Also, it's difficult to cut it from the roots.

I have not heard about it, if we pluck the white hair then seven will grow there. What I heard is if we pluck one hair it will be doubled on growth. It has proven scientifically, when we forcibly pluck the hair the root will be split and it becomes two instead of one.
Anyway the real intention of this superstition is that to discourage plucking of white hair. There are number of methods available to blacken your hair. If the grey is immature you can use ‘henna’ in your head and it may reduce your problem. Cutting or plucking the white hair won’t solve your problem but will add it.

I guess there is always some truth behind "superstitions". I don't know about the scientific fact of splitting the roots, thanks for sharing.

I dont believe that there will be more white hairs coming out once you removed one. I think its also with the genes. My mom has white hairs and I inherit that. YOu cant do anything about that. It only shows that all things will die and go back to its origin.. dust.. hehe

We all return to our original state, ashes to ashes, dust to dust? Let nature take its course.

no not at all thats an old wives tale with moss on it, bluemoonpavilion
so you go right ahead and pluck them out as needed. lol.Why do they make up
those stupid things. Oh I have them a whole head of them, silver grey really so no I no longer pluck as my hair has turned white with my age.
I did pluck them when Ihad caramel colored ash blonde hair but now in the last decade I became white silver headed so let nature take its course. lol

I thought all rumours have to start somewhere so there must be a certain percentage of truth in it. But I suppose with developments in science and technology, sometimes we can get around the problem.

I also have white hairs since I was a teenager and I have always plucked them, too -- despite often being told not to do so for, according to them, the more white hairs I'll have if I pluck them. Funny, even up to now I still can't tell if that said belief is true or not. But one things is sure, I have more white stands now -- I only make sure that I hide them good with hair dye. Hahaha I've stopped plucking about five years ago as I became worried more of my falling hair. :-)

Yes, what if after we plucked them, no hair comes out in replacement, not even the white ones, that would be disastrous hahaha.

More white hair will grow out from the place you plucked them.
Seriously, you believe in that? I remembered watching a TV show and a doctor said that the worst that can happen is that just a new white hair will take place of the old one. (Oops, too many "that"s!)

I have had strands of white hair ever since I was 11 and I have also been told not to pluck them as it would cause them to multiply. I did not listen and now I have a lot more than I had at 11. But I don't think it is because I had them plucked. I'm getting older so I think it's just natural to get gray hair plus both of my parents have so much white hair. That means it's in my genes, so I have accepted that it is inevitable for me to dye my hair later on.

Hi qianyun,
You have a superpower of identifying the new hairs that grow out everyday?
Rumour is still to be proven, so I'm collecting data now.
