This Is Why Our Boys And Girls Should Be Coming Home NOW..

..oh I despair of this war in Afghanistan, I really do. Day after day there are reports of more deaths and it breaks my heart, not only for the families they leave behind but the fact that most of them are around my nephew's age (he's 20) and I must say - for selfish reasons, I'm glad he hasn't joined up.
The following news article confirms my belief that we shouldn't be there and we should pull out NOW..not in 3 to 5 years' time. I reckon, even 3 to 5 years from now nothing will have changed in Afghanistan and it never will in my opinion.
Does anyone else feel the same way as I do..that it's all got to stop? I also read that it's all "kicked off" again in Northern Ireland. That's upsetting me as well because I worry at where it's all leading.

They need to be home NOW !!!
My son is 14 and I would do anything in my power to stop him joining up, although thankfully he shows no interest to do so.
Sadly so many lads do because of the4 lack of other work and it is an awful worry.
I can't imagine what it must be like for the families of the soldiers, they must dread the door going or the phone ringing, my heart goes out to them.
And as you say, once again Ireland is enflamed, my daughter lives in the town where the two boys were killed by the IRA bomb in the early90's, my other daughter was actually in the town shopping the day it went off, it's difficult not to forget these incidents - so why oh why do people have to keep stirring up the troubles over and over.

My husband once said to me that he doesn't think there will ever be a lasting peace in Northern Ireland as there are some idiots who don't WANT IT! I just can't understand them at all. Have they got nothing else better to do?
You know what will happen though...the lads and lasses will finally come home from Afghanistan only to be re-deployed in Northern Ireland! I really hope that doesn't happen but the way it's going...it will.
I didn't want to make you feel worse, what with your daughter being over there...it must be a worry for you.
Take care.

Oh I do apologise, sorry for the misunderstanding. Terrible, that Warrington bomb, I remember it well.

Perhaps if the US had followed through on promises to send economic help, idk.
I saw a bumper sticker, "Honor our troops out of Iraq", I reckon it's the same for Afghanistan.

I'm going to guess that most people here don't think about it that much. There's a lot more awareness of what's going on in Iraq. We do hear about the soldiers coming home in body bags, but not very much about the Afghani people who have been killed, crippled, etc., or maybe people would get fed up.

oh lord.i have relatives in northern ireland too.
i don't think any of us going to that area of the world is really going to change anything, they should send them home.
some areas of the world have been fighting for millenia let alone years and i seriously doubt they truly care what the rest of the world has to say about it.

It's such a shame what is happening in Northern Ireland because tourism was on the up there. Once people around the world get to know about these latest flare-ups they won't want to visit the place...it's supposed to be stunning in parts too. I don't know why we all can't get along, it's not too much to ask is it?

I agree that they should end this war. Get out and leave it to the Afghani people to sort out themselves. The USA should not be involving themselves in other peoples conflicts and we in Australia and the UK should not be following the USA into these battles.
It seems to be more frequent that I am hearing about the deaths of Aussie and UK soldiers in Afghanistan. I believe that the situation will not change and that they are wasting time, money and lives by being there.

I think that they are talking about a similar time span for a pull out of our troops too. I think they should just do it right away. Why delay? I agree with you about the whole American relationship thing.

I couldn't agree more. I know Cameron is thinking of a timespan of between 3-5 years to pull out but I think he should really put his balls on the line (so to speak) and say, "enough is enough" and be brave enough to do the right thing NOW. Stuff what everyone else thinks. Harold Wilson (the PM of the day) didn't even let our troops go into Vietnam and what was that "war" all about? He must've realised what was coming and refused to become involved...and I wish our present lot would do the same but they won't. If I hear about our "special relationship" with America one more time I'm gonna scream. Don't get me wrong, I love America and its people, I really do but their politicians leave a lot to be desired.

My little brother's best friend, who is like a brother to me, is serving in Afghanistan right now. So is my husbands cousin, and he has another in Iraq. Those are just a few of the people we love that are overseas right now. It is terrible hearing about another soldier killed and wondering if it is someone we know. My brother wanted to join the Air Force at 18, I thank God every day that he didn't pass the physical exam because they found an underlying heart condition.

I cannot imagine what it would be like for me if my one and only nephew was to join the army. My heart goes out to everyone (including yourself) who knows people out there, it must be terrible for everyone concerned. I only wish everyone could come home.

You might think I have no heart, but why do we care what goes on in other countries? They have THEIR way of living and who are we to have them change that?
I hate wars and Im against any war. We too have men coming back home in body bags and Im happy nobody in my family has joined.
War is just a way some government use to make more money. They never fight for the reason they tell us. Its a scam as far as Im concerned and its our youngs who pay the price.....not to mention their families and friends.
Lets stop the madness now!!

I couldn't agree more. Politicians send our boys and girls to war (lightly in my view) because they don't have to go so it's easy for them to make the decision stuck behind a desk.
What upsets me the most is seeing photos online of the latest "victims" and most of them are VERY young indeed..babies really.
So sad.

Same here, very young kids being killed. They go to schools and university here to recruit, so thats why our kids are being sent to be killed. They paint them a pretty picture promising traveling and meeting new people. They dont mention what its like to step on a bomb and be killed or have your legs blown up. Kids are easy to recruit, they are too young to see there being lied to.

I pray every day that this will come to an end. I dont see how this is benifiting anyone. There has to be other ways to handle this and i think we jumped in to alot of things that will never be totally undercontrol. I know we have to protect one another from attacks on our freedom too but it just doesnt seem like we are getting anywhere. My son is USMC and will be deployed in March it breaks my heart and i know the closer it gets the worse off im gonna get. I hear everyday of more that have been killed and my heart just breaks for those families.

Forgive my ignorance (and I'm sorry) but what is USMC? I take it your son is employed in the military? So sorry that he has to go over there in March. I wish him well, I really do.

I think most of people hate any wars in the world . Because if one war is opened , more and more lifes will be lost . Therefore keeping a peace world will benefit humans . Do you think so ?

Too right! If only everyone thought that way my friend, the world would be such a peaceful place.
