Hi everyone. As a reader do u have this habit? I mean do u dog ear that page just u have read and go out for an another task? Dog ear means to fold a corner of a page before leaving the book. ( just for who are not familiar with this term). Honestly i have not that habit as it harms that page and the beauty of the book gets lost. So, i keep a pen or paper instead of dog earing. So what about you? Waiting for your views. Lol.

I use a bookmark sweetie. I hate it when i get a book and the dog ears show like that. People shouldn't do that. TATA.

well we visit the library at least once a week so i tend to discourage my daughters from doing that (and to always use a book mark) as it does harm the book.

I agree that it does harm the.book and I cant bring myself to dog ear a page. It even upsets me when someone borrows a book of mine a dogears the pages and bends the spine.

I am the same a Jezebella, it really bothers me when someone dog ears a page in one of my books. It's not that hard to find a bookmark, sometimes a piece of paper works perfectly for a book mark. Once I even used a bobbi-pin to save my place in a book.

I used to dog ear the pages. I had loads of bookmarks but I could never seem to find them when I needed them so I would just fold the corner. I didn't really like what that was doing to the books, so I went back to using bookmarks. I have this one good quality pink and green bookmark with beads on the tassel that I got for graduation last year and have been using on almost every book I've read since.

It's pretty easy to find something else to mark your place with so that the pages don't get damaged. Lots of the bookstores around here practically hand out free bookmarks and you can use pretty much any piece of paper to mark your place.

shibham I would happily send you a bookmark! LilyLoretta, I usually end up using whatever is handy since I don't always have a bookmark at the ready. I should probably create a special place for storing them.

Sometimes, when I'm in a hurry and there's no paper on hand, I would dog ear a page to mark where I am. That's better than slamming the book face-down while open on the page. But I try not to do it too often. Sometimes I use a tissue to mark my pages.

oh no, I would never do that! What sacrilage! Books are our friends ... and I wouldn't dog-ear a friend either! Growing up, I didn't have many books so I used the library a lot. I found a lot of things left in books by previous readers; their discarded bookmarks,a few photos, a letter, and yes even crumbs ... but by far the worst thing I ever found was an enormous squashed spider! I sincerely hope it wasn't being used as a bookmark .......

hi ,miranda... you are 100% right, books are our friends. as we should not touch a ear of a friend, same not to offer a dog ear to a book. what spider? who was that stupid. some slaps for that person. now a days, i seldom visit library as i have a library of my own and never do that with my books as well with other's great day always.

Hi Shibham, I did it earlier when I was a student that time I don’t bother much about the book’s safety. Now I won’t do it anymore instead I keep a book mark if I want to go for some other works in between the reading.

No. don't dogear any book, not even a magazine. I seem to remember where I has left reading. Sometimes I remember the exact para and/or page.Often even if I am off the mark, I will sson find the spot where I had last left reading, even if this means several days or may be months. It is for urgent recall that I place a paper or card, or any such book mark. I never dog ear, and don't like anyone to do it to my books either.

I am able to do that simply because books are my first love. Reading is a passion for me, almost like a worship. What I do to remember is not try to remember the page "number" cuz with numbers I am like LilyLoretta-- I too don't remember phone numbers or for that matter any number.. my memory is organized by "picturizing". When I want to remember the page up to which I have read, I raise the book to the eye level and sort of "photograph" the relative sizes of read and unread portion. As I have mentioned above I would thus be able to hit within a page or two and by just glancing through some of the lines I arrive at the point I had left when last read. I need to do this because I keep reading several books at the same time. That is nothing great. Every student would be reading several books atthe same time and would be at different pages!?!

Hi shibham, I know dog earing a page is not a good habit but to be frank I do sometime or to put the correct data I used to do this. Of course, this depended more on the quality and shape of the book I took for reading. If the book was just so so and I was reading not with such seriousness I would dog ear the page but if it was an important one and I was serious on it I would either use a bookmark or anything within reach. But the good thing is, to a larger extent I have almost grabbed a control over this urge and now instead of dog earing I use bookmarks rather. Besides these days almost all good publications have bookmarks attached to the books and hence no question of dog earing.

hi boss..... oh... u too brutas.... hahaha... actually its not the matter whether you are reading with seriousness or not. if u have that habit then you will always tend to dog ear a page. very bad but too thanks for being so honest. its rather comfortable to use a bookmark instead of folding a page's corner. yeah, u are right that some publishers always attach some bookmarks for the help of reader but i have seen that some readers never follow that bookmark and often go for that stupidity. have a nice day.

I try not to do that at any costs. Instead, I have a whole stack of bookmarks that I try to keep on-hand for any occasion so that if I need to put my book down then I can just easily stick it in the page. :) That keeps the book in good condition and everything and makes it easy to find where I was.

Guilty as charged. Yes, sometimes i fold back a dog ear on the page where I find something interesting, instructive, useful or essential for me. Even worse, I underline those passages with a pencil. That's how nasty i am with non-fictions. However, I take care of precious hardcovers, reprints, albums, etc. I would never destroy the pages with dog ears. Sometimes I even chose a pretty bookmark which fits well in the book.

hi mamaleone. i had the same thoughts as miranda just reading the first para. but as i underline the same way i always erase after rewriting it in a notebook. thanks that u are highly conscious about the good condition of a book. great day always. thanks miranda.
16 Jul 10
How very naughty of you! But as to the second part of your comment, I thought that I was the only one who did that! I have a selection of bookmarks too, and I always try to choose one that suits the type of book I am reading, or else tones in with the colour or design of the cover.

I never did dog earing in a book (btw, in Hungary we call it donkey earing :D), I was always a bookmark person (it just ruins the page... a book is sacred for me, so...). I only do it in magazines where I see an article/pic I want to cut out, and not on that page, which mag I don't plan on keeping.

Hi doroffee... Whatever it is dog earing or donkey earing, both are harmful to book and a bad habit of a reader. As we consider book as our best friend, hence it is not the proper way to treat a best friend. have a nice time.

I never have done that to a book. Books are wonderful items, they entertain, teach, take us to other worlds and should be respected and revered. I have used blades of grass before as bookmarks when I could not find one but I will never turn down the corner of the page and damage the book!

No.I don't fold the page...I love my books..so either I put a pen or put some paper.. since childhood my mom has taught me not to put dog ears in my school books..so its become a habit now...:) now..whenever I see any of my friend's books having dog ears ..I scold them...and tell them..it is not good for the books...and even it destroys the interest of the book reader...

I do not dog ear pages of books. I like to keep the book in good condition. I use a bookmarker. I also write page numbers to reference later on a post it note, or piece of note paper. I like to keep the book nice, as I will donate it to the library or some other worthy oraganization.
