The isms and happiness

Hello friends, all you really have to do to be completely happy is be yourself. But the problem is that in our modern day society practically nobody has even the slightest clue as to who they really are. Almost everyone misidentifies their body as being their self. But nothing could be further from the truth. Therefore they spend their entire lives serving a false conception of the self, never finding any genuine satisfaction. It's no wonder then that so many people commit suicide every day and that the mass population spend their lives pointlessly trying to kill their misery by absorbing themselves in this ism or that ism and by indulging in sense gratification. One needs to simply understand his non-material eternal nature and connect with the Supreme Person, the source of all existence, through loving service. This will turn his life into a non-stop blissful celebration. What is your view on this, please share? Are you really happy? Professor

I am a great one for minimal social interaction! I mean I dont approve of too many parties, functions, visiting, blah blahs. :) Social interaction should be light hearted with people whom you are never likely to meet. That way jealousies, envies, hurts etc., are minimal. Unnecessary heart burns are minimal. Then again functions and parties force people to buy good clothes, jewelry, cars, etc., to keep up with joneses at times. These prompt jealousies, even amongst siblings. So all such things should be private. The less we meet, the less we talk, the less we clutter up our brains with worthless things, and the more peaceful and happier people we become. We also waste less petrol on traveling. :) And less energy on getting all those clothes and accessories. :)

How right you are my friend. I have practiced zazen (Zen) meditation now on a daily basis for the last 30 years or so, and I have many glimpses at how the material world is so impermanent. I mean how can it be permanent when it is subject to constant change? The here and now, is gone the moment you experience. How can we call that reality!? To go to the Source, all we have to do is look within and be prepared to accept it. Sounds easy, but it is not if we are not serious in wanting to know the unknowable that lies beyond the restrictions of the rational mind. _Derek

hi professor you always make such good sense. We all have the power to make ourselves happy,it is within us. Yes we need to connect with Our God and make our lives worthwhile by service to others as thats what we must do to be whole and not just be selfish mixed up people.thats my view on things and working as a nurses aide for years was most fulfilling to me.

Hey there prof. If we just confine everything on ourselves, we will not be happy for sure. Everything will be alright with friends and especially God! If we share anything good or bad we encounter with others then we will not feel alone.

Hi Professor, Correct me if I'm wrong but hasn't this always been the case? Although you are absolutely correct about the solution I believe that more people realize that we are spiritual beings today than at any other period in history. There have always been a few who saw this truth as we see in the writings of some of the great poets and authors of the past, but it is coming to the forefront more today as more are writing about it and more are reading and comprehending the truth. I agree that the number is still small in comparison to the population but I believe that the change has already started as more and more people remember who they are. Blessings.

Dear Sir, I am completely agree with you. I think the nature of life is a mystery. If you try to unfold it it will become complex. You are right that with live with a false image of ourselves. However, I believe that people learn by experiences of life. The spiritualism you are pointing towards can only be learned through self experiences. We all have to explore who we are? what is the real nature of life? and how to be happy? I agree with you when you say, "one needs to simply understand his non-material eternal nature and connect with the sources of all existence." However what I am pin pointing is that everyone has his or her uniques experiences of way to eternity. That is why we have to explore our way to happiness-we can not just copy others way to happiness and eternity.
