Has this ever happened to you on myLot?

I do not know whether to be surprised or just wonder WTF. Recently I responded to a discussion and the response received a comment I, in turn, commented back only to be told the following:
"Whiteheather,
Thank you for your respond, you get a + rating, this discussion is closed"
What the hell does that mean??.... Shut up, you've said enough, etc., etc. I thought it was a good thing to keep a thread alive. I feel like I have been graded and not to give anymore unwelcome postings. Considering the discussion only got 2 responses I find this even more surprising.
I do know I will never respond to any more discussions from that person!
What would you do?

While a discussion can never close, it can be "best responsed" and I think a lot of people consider it closed then. However, I've read what the person said, and realize that it was just plain rudeness and not anything to do with misunderstanding.

I agree that this person is probably just ignorant to the rules of myLot. I thinks its very important to read up on all of the guidelines before posting so that this doesnt happen. I love the fact that myLot is so good at not allowing negative comments to be added about others specifically, it makes things a bit more civil although it doesnt always turn out that way, fortunately this experience you went through is the exception not the rule.

Mmmmmmm...I always give people the benefit of the doubt before saying anything.
First, how was your conversation with him? was it an argument? do you think you said something offensive? Or maybe you were offended and you tried to reason out?
Was the person a native English speaker?
Was the person a newbie here at the Lot?
Maybe he just thought that's how things go here. I gotta admit. It is weird. But I gotta have to know the details first of what transpired between you two

It was not an argument, you can decide for yourself:

IMO, he/she just ran out of any further retorts. So he/she CLOSED the discussion. Just like that? And sarcastically gave you a + rating. It was like giving a crying child a candy bar to make the kid shut up!
That's why I try to stray away from political discussions because more often it ends up in heated exchanges of words but STILL, nobody closes a discussion just like that.

wow, that is kind of rude, and strange. Why would he or she go out of their way to make a statement like that?? Well maybe he or she will come across this discussion and realize that your talking about them and feel stupid lol and good luck w/ your other post!!

Hi Heather
No that has not happened to me and I think it is very rude of the Person, who do they think they are
I certainly would have left a wonderful response for that Person believe me it would have sounded nice but my Message would have got through to them
That is so rude and it is making me angry that they where so rude to you

That has not happened to me! Are you sure that was what they meant to say? Many times people who don't speak English well will say the wrong thing. "this discussion is closed" may mean that they understand your point. There are many misunderstandings when people don't have a language in common.

dragon54u you are also familiar with this particular "rose" and she is American although her English is, grammatically, not very good she knew exactly what she was saying!

Well, that is puzzling. I admit I have never seen that before and would not expect it from that particular bloom. Without looking at the context of the comments I can't venture to guess the reason behind it.

WHITEHEATHER: I went to the site & read the posts, & I actually believe the problem lies in K-rose's horrid grammar & spelling. I don't think he (she?) intended to be rude, but the exact opposite. I think it was his awkward way of saying that you said it all so well that nothing further needed to be said. I could be mistaken, though...it's hard to tell.
He really needs lessons in English spelling, grammar & just wording things properly. Some people who write in MyLot are very hard to understand, & make for difficult reading. I'm speaking of those for whom English is their native tongue! They ought to know better! I always cut lots of slack for those who don't have it as their birth language--that's just fair.
If the person & the topic are interesting to me, I'll grit my teeth & try to figure it out. But as often as not, I end up ignoring such a poster, as it's just not worth the hassle.
One of the ones I enjoy, but who sometimes makes little to no sense to me because of his spelling & grammar, lives Down Under. Maybe you know of whom it is I speak. I can decipher most of his posts--though he ought to use spell check!--but if he weren't so funny & charming, I'd not bother!
Anyway, try re-reading K-rose's post & see if you don't think it's possible he meant to compliment you. If he did, then, were it I, I'd PM him & apologize, & inform him that his poor writing skills made you take what he said the wrong way. Let him find out that he needs to check his grammar & spelling, or continue to be misunderstood! I noticed he didn't return after your angry reply; maybe he was ashamed to have upset you.
It's just my effort at spreading the charitable approach. I really hate being misunderstood, so I always bend over backwards so as not to misunderstand others.

Maggiepie that is a very nice slant to put on the comment in question however as he/she only wrote "Thank you for your respond, you get a + rating, this discussion is closed" as the glaring error was respond instead of response I think I got the correct meaning.
After checking out some of her other discussions I realized she only wants to be heard/read as she does (not dose! heh heh) actually comment to any responses but just gives an another parapagraph of her opinion.
But I thank you for being so generous.

Geez, I didn't see or do I remember the discussion. I believe my feelings would be deeply hurt hurt. This is not why there is a mylot.
I believe, as I too have one similar incident that I'd forget this person, igore her/his posts or delete the person all together.
I've never seen one of your discussions get "turned away" with only 2 responses....where the heck was I ???
But hang in there. I love your discussions and responses.

Oh, I understand it was not your discussion and to be "flipped" off that way would have ticked me off too.
Yes, I too respond to discussions which is the whole point to a discussion and as I said had about the same thing happen to me.
I was basically told to go fly a kite.........
The best you can do is blow it off, ignore the person and move on. There are better members here.
Sorry to have worded that one all wrong.
Up too early and had a phone call too.........no real excuses.
Have a great day....

As many others said, there's no such thing here as a closed discussion. The only way a discussion could legitimately be closed is for me to delete it.

I am still pretty new to this website, but saw your discussion and then had to go take a look for myself. That was really rude, and once more people see what happened I don't think people will comment on anymore discussion from that mylotter. This place is for discussions, if you don't want to carry the discussion further it is fine not to comment back, but to write that is just downright rude, not to mention ignorant.

Welcome to myLot! I have been a member for four years and this is the first time I have seen such rudeness. This is not an everyday occurrence and the person who made the comment has a very low reputation (only a 2 star). I hope you enjoy your time spent on myLot.

I think you chose not to read the discussion. The link was posted on a couple of previous responses.
It really helps to read previous responses as Alice said no one can close a discussion except her.!

Huh...this is something odd. I have been here for 4 years and have never encountered such a weird reply. I fear this person needs to attend the school of mylotting! if it is ever conducted. Being ignorant here is no excuse as it is vividly stated in the guidelines how to use this site to the best advantage.

Hi, whiteheather39. I have never went through this before. It was very nice of you to have responded to their discussion in the first place. I would not respond to any of their discussions anymore either. I think that they were being generous and rude at the same time. And how are they given the authority to close their own discussion? As long as this discussion is available, anybody and anyone is able to give a response. Since when did they make this rule? I would just ignore them. It is sad to start a discussion, and then tell another member that their discussion is now closed. They should be thankful that you have even bothered to leave an response.

Just now, upon reading your topic,or maybe other mylotters did encounter this kind of response and they just ignored it.
Well,i like my discussion to have longer inter-action,so my topic is never been closed even with my oldest topic
Cheer up dear, there are lot of friends here to respond with

I agree, you shouldn't be rude to people online if you can help it. You could get in trouble for it here, I don't know, but you should always try to be nice to people, that's just weird.
