How do you think you can manage a day without electricity?

We slept with no electricity and woke up with none either. The power is out because of the typhoon that hit Metro Manila. Basically, I stared at our window the whole day. Lol... Nothing much to do with out electricity. We don't even have a gas stove. So, I just took out our left over food and ate that for lunch and for dinner we just bought a meal. It's good I have my cell so I was still able to communicate with my family and friends and was able to check my emails. My MP3 has helped me be sane the whole day too. Lol. I think I already memorized the lyrics of the songs I played over and over again. How do you think you can manage a day without electricity?

We will only be seeing more & more natural disasters from now on with a greater intensity too. Even in areas that are not directly affected by natural disasters, we may experience cuts to our services, sometimes quite lengthy & often, due to, in your case, a central power generation station being affected. We should be preparing for such events right now. We need decentralized power sources on a "per household" basis so everyone will not have to "go without" when a crisis happens & we most need good communications, lighting & ways of surviving it. The way to do this is to build & maintain our own power generators, being responsible for our own electricity generation & use. The design that has been long established & built & tested by over 3000 members from every country in the world, of a group you can join for free, can be found here:
http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/Bedini_Monopole3
They will give you 24/7 technical support whilst you build your own, test it & gather parts from readily available local junk-box parts for the smallest cost which will give you the greatest return of power generated per dollar spent by a long shot. If you want to shortcut the process & spend a little more, you may buy a kit of parts from: http://r-charge.com/
You may like to do some further reading on the matter from any of Tom Bearden's or John Bedini's books available from a big library near you. The first of which is over 1000 pages thick with heaps of websites, cross-references, etc, etc. The second has circuits you can build to generate so-called "free energy".
When life throws lemons at you, make lemonade!

I have managed a day without electricity and it was horrible. It was the day after a ice storm, and it didn't take long for our small apartment to get cold. I wouldn't have complained to much, but I had two small children that was complaining of the cold. Even with extra clothes it was still cold. We woke up to cold and the power didn't come back on until 24 hours later. Luckily, we had cereal and milk, I learned how to open the fridge fast and get what we needed without letting out more coldness into the apartment. We even lost power in our new home at night, again during the coldest night. That wasn't fun at all, because our home got colder faster than it did in the apartment. It wasn't fun trying to gather blankets for the kids and myself in the dark. It was also hard to fall asleep with the electric company trucks going by with their lights on trying to locate the source of the power outage. Now it wouldn't be no walk in the park if the power went out now, being so hot. It wouldn't take long for my home to heat up, especially the upstairs.

I just came back from a camping trip where there was no use of any electrical contraptions. I thoroughly enjoyed myself and was contempt with just sitting around a fire, going to the lake, and just walking around. I do just fine without electricity. It is much more interesting without any electricity, because then you get to use your imagination.

What time did you get your electricity back? There was also power outage in our part last night. I think the whole Metro Manila and Greater Manila Area had a blackout. So you're saying you just got your power back? Luckily we got mine this morning. Anyway, what I do without electricity is I read in the morning, and play cards with my family at night. =)

I think I can manage, but sometimes it can be very annoying when the electricity goes out especially when you have a whole lot of food in the refrigerator! When the electricity goes out, I normally just read during the day and catch up on some rest. At night, I will just light some candles and talk to my love one until we both get sleepy. I really would not like it if the electricity was off too long though, I think I can stand about two days and then after that I would probably be frustrated.

Hi,
Being without electricity, because so much of lives is centered around it, really is an inconvience. Being without it limits us to be able to do so many thing that makes our lives function more smoothly.
The modern conviences like electricity has, in my opinion, spoiled us. We have forgotten or are too young to have experienced what it was like before all the modernization was put in place.
Living in hurricane country, where one could experience power outages or surges anytime between the months of June through Novermber, we have to prepare with all kind of supplies and equipment. Battery powered equipment is vital, so is having a generator. If you don't have a gss stove, a BBQ grill comes in handy, and of course it wouldn't be of use if you didn't have any food, so having food that will not spoil is a good idea too.
I would listen to some books on tapes, I have a battery powered televison one I don't think I would get to bored if I had to be without electricity for a day or two.

Yes I can manage day without electricity, because I had experience with It many times. It is hard to live without electricity, because you can not do normal things like make dinner, wash, cook etc. Usually electricity at my place we lost, because the storm is active, but know I am happy that outside weather is sunny and we can fully enjoy our day. I think I would sleep all day when electricity would lost whole day. Take care, Have a nice day!

It is not fun to go a day without electricity. How would I manage? Well, probably the same way I managed to do 25 years ago. We went for a year and a half without lights. The worst thing about it was the cold showers. Not too bad in the summer, but come winter, whewww , lawdie, talk about torture. I dont ever want to have to do that again. We kept things like bologna, ham, and mayonaise in a cooler with ice. My mama bought candles galore, and we had a kerosene lamp that we used. In the winter, we used the kerosene heater to cook on. It took forever, but we did it. We tried heating water for a bath, but by the time we would get the second pot of water hot enough, the first pot had gone cold. We only had a radio that used batteries. I did alot of writing and listening to music. I found ways to occupy myself. I was 15 at the time. We didnt have lights because the bill got to high , then we had to move from our old place, and when I say move, we had to move our mobile home, and there wasnt any money left to get the light deposit paid plus the total of the whole bill that was owed. Finally when I was 16 , I won a contest on the radio and won a $1,000.00 Dollars. First thing I said was "We gonna Have Lights"!! I gave my mom the 500 to get them turned back on. I remember it well, and it wasnt easy, and it wasnt fun, but it can be done, you can survive.

I have many things in my mind that I want to do, reading books, painting and writing something, but because of the technology today...its really killing my time, but when the power in our community goes out and there's no computer and T.V. I able to finish an egg mosaic of my former favorite comicmag character...hehehe...
What happened did not waste my time but become more productive but when its time to sleep and the night is too humid duh! I really pray (no kidding) that God will bring back our electric power..hehehe!
God bless.

I grow up in a remote place and for my childhood years, we never had an electricity so if ever it will happen again, I will survive...Like you, I will just spend my time listening to music on my phone or maybe time to do a lot of reflection....lol!

Hi santomarichris~ I know I would be very miserable without
having electricity. I would definitely miss having the Internet
the most! If it was during the day and not too hot then I could
go outside, but at this time of year when the temps are almost
100 or more that's probably not a good idea! So, I would
listen to music or read a book. At night it would be difficult
and boring because that's when I would really miss the electricity!

Atleast there is a problem with it and you all have been told or aware of the fact. In my country nobody cares and even the power corporation will not even notify you of such developments or problems. An absurd country you will say, despite the fact that we distribute power to other neighbouring country, who tend to never expreience a power outage because it's all stated in the terms of the country.
Today is the third day there is no electricity and it has also rained today which in turns gives the power corporation a great relief and a factor to blame for such wicked act of theirs. It all comes down to one things, which is the use and popularity of power generating sets, which is so common in every home right here in my country.

I'll just sleep..:D Haha... If there's still light I'll just read books or magazines. I won't use my laptop since I can use it to charge my cellphone. I am staying in a dormitory so talking with my dorm mates will help me forget that there's no electricity.:D
