My whole house smells like smoke!

My husband decided to make a snack; so, he popped some corn dogs in the microwave and set the timer. Next thing I knew, I smelled smoke. Come to find out, my husband misread the directions and set the microwave for 8 minutes instead of the minute and a half the directions said. This was actually the time it took to deep fry them from a frozen state! Since, I knew he had made them before with no problem, I asked him if he didn't realize something was wrong and he said he "thought it sounded strange" but he was just "following the directions". Now my house and everything in smells like burned corndogs! Well, I guess that is better than burned popcorn; but, not much better!

That is funny. I preheated the oven and I didn't know that there were things inside it. There were plastics and a bowl of leftover food. After a few minutes it started smoking. The plastic melted and got burnt, nothing happened to the bowl with leftovers. The hard thing is to clean it up. The plastic stinks and the oven smells like plastic. The plastic is very sticky and very hard to remove. Well, I learned my lesson. Check your oven for safety before preheating it.

I have not done that with plastics, but with pans either clean or with a little oil in them. I hate that when it happens.

It's not white people food so we don't put it the fridge. The plastics were food containers with food in them.

I have occasionally left pans in the stove and forgotten; but, not plastic. How did you finally manage to get the burned plastic out and off the racks? That must have been really difficult!

Yuck! My husband doesn't know how to cook unless you give him step by step directions. When he was younger (like high school age) he used to call his mom to get instructions on making mac n cheese even though he made it almost every day for an entire summer. He just wanted to make sure he didn't do it wrong lol! Yesterday he was at home with the kids while I was running errands and he called to ask how to make tea. God love him. :)

Normally, he can handle the simple things: salads, sandwiches, burgers, tv dinners, etc. This time, his brain just took a "time out" and we all suffered the consequences.

Haha 'following the directions' hey. I think sometimes men can lack common sense in the cooking department. At least he was making his own snack instead of asking you to do it! I'm sure he will learn a valuable lesson from this. The smell of burned food can be so strong! It just sticks around for ages and all you can do is open all the windows and air the house out haha. Have fun!

Unfortunately, I had to go to work just a few hours later and even though I showered; I was still smelling burned corn dogs my entire shift!

Your hushand is so funny . But I suggest he must read directions so carefully later or maybe bring a big trouble to your house again . Do you agree with my thoughts ?

Well, I think I convinced him to double check the instructions any time there is any doubt in his mind. He has made them in the microwave before and he admitted he thought it was an awful long time; but, he didn't double check. Hopefully, he will in the future.

hahaha...i think that will smell odd. Even Thomas Alva Edison tried some experiments like this. He put the his wrist watch in water insted of the egg and was waiting for it to boil. When his wife was back from market she saw the egg still on the table and his wrist watch in the pan.

Well, hopefully, this is one "experiment" he will not try again soon!

That's funny that he turned the whole house into smoke. We had that same incident before but it was popcorn. I really don't like the smell. We opened the windows and turned on the electric fans so that the smoke will get out.

That is what we had to do. I also had to reshower because that smoke smell was all over me, in my hair, on on my clothes; and, even then, I still smelled smoke all through my shift at work!

He was so hungry he could not think straight. It may take a day or two to get the smell to freshen up. At least he did not start a fire with them. That would be awful. I think all of us have brain farts from time to time.

Actually, I am still getting whiffs of burned corndogs and time I am close to the microwave; but, they are getting fainter. Even, though he did not start a fire, there was smoke coming out of the microwave!

My son's favourite trick is melting chocolate in the microwave and inevitably burning it!! That smell is DREADFUL and awful to get rid of.

Men, you can't leave him for a second in your kitchen. Once my partner put a glass bowl of veggies on a stove and it broke to pieces. I asked him why did he do it. He said he saw in TV that you can cook anything in a glass bowl. I told him it's not just any glass bowl, but the one specially made to heat resistance.

Unfortunately, I have to leave him in the kitchen by himself sometimes. Both of us work shifts and our days off don't always match. Most of the time he can handle simple things - tv dinners, sandwiches, burgers, etc. This time, he blew it!

when your house got filled with smoke, just try to bring a wet towel, and start waving it in the air, it works vary nicely for me, I always forget my deep frier on, because I keep doing so many tasks togeather

I have forgotten to turn off the deep fryer myself a time or two; but, I always discovered it before it started to smoke. I will have to remember your trick with the wet towel if it happens again.
