changes in thinking from youth?

I remember when my first boyfriend begged me to return to CA - he was sooooooooooo perfect - but things were crowded with Mr hyde - mr Jekyls other half. He wanted to marry me and said he'd buy us a house in Sausolito. My mom told to consider it (she didn't know of the verbal abuse - not all the time but enough) and told me when you're young you think idealistically and wait around for true love then realize that whats really important is security, for yourself and any kids. She told me since this guy can provide that I should really consider it. Did some of your idealistic - if you were - views and plans change as you got older? What about other things - like plastic surgery - did you once say - never! then rethink it later? There are so many things this discussion can apply to - what you wanted to be when you grew up and what you feel you should do now...what things have changed in your thinking, views etc from your youth?

I don't know that I was too idealistic when I was younger. I was pretty cynical. I think it was because I was at the depressed end of the bipolar spectrum, and hadn't been diagnosed yet. So there was no rosy shine, or glossy dreams coming out of me. I think I did figure that everything would work itself out. That I would go to college, graduate, meet someone, get a job, get married. I didn't think any of it would be easy, but I did think it would happen. And some of it did happen. But I never finished college due to a lot of reasons, most of them health. And then I had to quit my job...oh well. I've got a lot of time left. Supposedly. lol
