Why can't we freeze cooked and peeled prawns that have been frozen before?

Several days ago I bought two packs of prawns from supermarket and before I realized it was stated "DO NOT REFREEZE" on the back of the packs, I put them into freezer. It was my husband later found out that they shouldn't had been freezed. However, we still ate them in soup risking whatever that might happen to our stomaches. Then I went on google trying to find out about the prawns. A lot of people said refreezing cooked prawns could cause a double growth of germs in the prawns. Some even mentioned the possibly of getting food poison by doing that. But a small amount pointed out it was only a matter of the texture of the prawns, and they just wouldn't taste very nice after being refreezed. The fact is, my husband and I both obviously didn't get bad stomach or food poison. So why exactly can't we refreeze cooked and peeled prawns?

The biggest reason is that seafood is known for harboring germs that cause food poisoning alot more than any other food. When they said it could cause a double growth of germs in the prawns, they are exactly right. You took a chance of getting food poisoning, and just because you didn't get it this time, doesn't mean you won't get it next time. It's very dangerous to do this, especially if the food defrosted even a tiny bit. It is not safe to do at all. They are only telling you this for your own good. If you have never experienced a "severe" case of food poisoning, you are very lucky! And even if it's not a severe case, it's completely miserable. It's very painful alot of people end up in the hospital because of it. Just be really careful.

Thank you! I only did that once and don't think I will do that again. It was quite a mistake :)

Your welcome, and no harm was done to you or hubby, so that was a good thing. I hope you don't take a chance and do this again because next time could be it, and I wouldn't want that to happen to anyone. It's painful and you feel like your dying, seriously! Have a good night now!

The only way you would be able to refreeze them safely would be to cook them in a dish and then freeze the dish

That's very informative. I just heard it now but I really don't buy frozen prawns. You may not had bad stomach or poison but it's much better for us to take precautionary measures.
