Is naturally curly hair a blessing...

...or some sort of sadistic torture dreamed up by a psychotic, vindictive, vengeful god?Yeah, I know. It's a tough one.
If you're lucky enough to have been 'blessed' with naturally curly hair, you've probably hated it at some point. You've probably stood in front of the mirror staring at the frizzy corkscrews that refuse to be tamed, looked at your friends with their sleek, shiny, straight hair, and thought to yourself "Why? Why me? What did I do to deserve this?"
Can you tell I've been there.
In the meantime, are there any naturally curly-haired people reading this? How do you feel about your hair? Do you spend inordinate amounts of time thinking about it, like I do?

I have naturally curly hair, and as a kid I would not have said that it was a blessing! It didn't really grow long, but grew out and when I was a teenager and long hair on boys were all the rage, I couldn't really grow mine because it looked so ridiculous.
I am very pleased now though, because it has not real style, I can save a fortune at the barber shop because I used a clippers that cut it just to the right length. I do this a couple of times a month and it stays fairly neat and tidy, except now that it's going grey! _Derek

The only time I've ever liked my naturally curly hair was when I was paying to get it styled for prom. Because I chose to keep my naturally curly look and work with my curls into an updo, the appointment ended up taking less time than I thought it would. When I asked my friends about it later (they had all had their hair curled... hehe), they said that they spent an hour or more at the salon getting their hair done. I only spent 30 minutes at the salon, and my hair stayed up all night long.

I have curly, wavy hair and sometimes I love it and sometimes I hate it. I usually wear it long because I can't find anyone who can cut it properly...it's very thick you see. I'm older now and it doesn't suit me long but I refuse to pay $30 to have it cut badly in a style that I don't like that doesn't suit me. At least when it's long I can put it up or tie it back.
My daughter brought a straightener with her a year ago during one of her visits and she straightened my hair. It felt extraordinarily lovely but I don't think it suited me. It was quite strange to see myself with sleek long hair. It felt so light too.

I can tell you know what its like. All through high school people told me how beautiful my hair was. They would come up to me complete strangers and tell me how beautiful it was and how lucky it was. I liked my hair. It was down to my rear and it was all ringlets. It really was pretty. Now with each child I had my hair got a little bit straighter. I look to old so I decided to straighten it. It looks so much better straight but Im not able to straighten it every single day. Some days theres no point if its rainy because the second it gets even slightly wet it starts curling up and looks ridiculous. I wish I was born with straight hair then I could curl it IF I wanted to. Straight hair is so much easier to style and to take care of then curly hair.

I really dont know if you like your hair or not. But it seems you dont like it that much. I have straight hair and I like it. Curly hairs is quite hard to manage. In our place (no offense meant) those having curly hairs are hot tempered and easily got mad. I hope youre not. Curly hair can now be straightend.

Hi terminator! We just happen to share the same sentiments.
Although I wouldn't call God vengeful. I just acknowledge the fact that He has his reasons for giving me this seemingly sadistic torture!

I hate my hair! Its not really curly and not really straight, just some frizzy, wavy mess in between that I can't do anything with! On the other hand, my two year old daughter has the prettiest, bounciest curls that always look perfect without doing a thing to them. And I'm sure that at some point she will hate them when she gets older. :)

Well, having curly hair is good or bad depending on the person. There are people who love curly hair, and get a perm so they can change from straight hair to that one.
In my case, my hair is wavy, and I absolutely hate it. It doesn't have a nice wave, but it turns into a shapeless bunch if I don't style it.
Curly hair can look cute in many kinds of updos, so when you hate your hair next time, think that you can style it prettily

Hi! I have a thick curly hair. I use to have it straightened all the time, then came the hair rebonding which is pretty, cause your hair comes out straight and soft, but my gosh I'm like in the salon from morning till night and it hurts!!! So, I stopped doing that torture to my self already. I grew my hair long and have a big curls done. It looks really nice but it's hard to maintain. Now, I cut my hair short and I find it much easier to maintain. I just put a headband and place some hair wax so it'll stay straight. I still think it's a blessing! I prefer thick curly hair than straight and thin hair.

hey, I don't have curly hair but I really find it sexy and wild! Sometimes, what we don't have is what we wish to have. My hair is very straight now lol but I'm also thinking of curling it because of the vigor and the aura that it gives to the person. Has anyone told you curly hair is fabulous? Not because everyone in the Hollywood likes their hair straight, all of us should as well. It's all about how you feel about yourself no matter what the hair is ;)

Well curly hair is just another style of hair. As a guy I really have no preference but if you have a problem with it just use a straightener (but not a flat iron as those are bad for your hair. I have pretty straight hair when I grow it out but understand, there is nothing to be ashamed of. All these girls straightening their hair with harmful flat irons just to appeal to guys. Let me tell you a little secret: We don't care. You don't have to be ashamed, curly hair looks great if you are comfortable with it and don't stress over it.

i'm the same way as you. when i was really little, i had curly hair, so would my mom tell me. there were pictures so she has proofs. but my hair got really straight when i was maybe four or five. so for as long as i can remember, i had straight hair. that's until i was 12. by then, my hair was starting to get wavy. it would have been okay but only the top surface of my hair gets curly, the strands that are inside are straight. in high school, i got tired of it so i just got my hair straightened. i did it all the way up to college but when now that i work, i don't do it anymore. that's because we're not allowed to have our hair down at work. we have to tie it at all times or put it in a bun. i don't wanna spend too much money on my hair anymore, now that i cannot 'flaunt' it. so during my days off when i don't tie my hair, i'm stuck with my weird semi-straight, semi-wavy hair.

I wish I had naturally curly hair. Mine can't seem to decide if it is straight or curly. I used to have it straightend but got bored with the look so I had it permed. My hair now looks like wire-like-strings because of the reaction to harsh chemicals.. sigh

I know the feeling. =( I have naturally semi-curly and semi-wavy hair. And it really sucks. I can't grow your hair long because it would look like a jungle teeming with vines. So I just keep it short and I'm still not happy about it. I mean, I had nice straight hair when I was young. Now I'm wondering why I wasn't blessed enough to retain it. =S

i'm a natural wavy-hair guy. few years later, i'm so depressed about my wavy hair, but when you grow it at a considerable length, it may look good...i tried it to grow then and since, i like my hair now.
