Can you say that the ends justify the means?

When it's a necessity to obtain something in an illegal way for a selfless reason is it justifiable? I remember a declamation piece I read way back in high school that talks about a young girl, an eleven-year-old kid if I remember it correctly, who stole a loaf of bread for her younger sisters and brothers who are begging her for food. She is willing to take anything just to feed them. Would you say that what she did is justifiable?

It seems as a general rule, if someone really needs something to survive, it rightfully belongs to that someone. If that girl got arrested and (hopefully very quickly) faced a judge in court, the judge would consider the reason for theft and probably get the girl some help. Though it is not a perfect world: "If our noble intentions are properly made known to all concerned, perhaps we can get away doing something more popularly deemed as illegal." History has been steered by people doing something popularly deemed "as illegal" only to demonstrate the entire situation clearly and (hopefully) make other people see that the wrongdoer was actually right ... " What do you think?

I do agree with you. It is an act of unconditional love that she was able to commit the crime. I guess it would be be better to help the child pay for just a loaf of bread and give her a living for her to legally support her brothers and sisters. Or better yet, bring them to an institution where the kids can live a better life. Thank you very much for the response. It is greatly appreciated.

I really cant say that the ends justify the means in that situation. If that would be the case, it would be easy for the criminals to commit crime that they did that out of love for their family and so. In court its not acceptable. If the judge would allow that same reason crime rate would be getting higher because of that lame excuse. If that girl has the intention to feed her siblings all she could have do is to beg food. There is no need to steal something.
