Can Trinidad and Tobago become the next Singapore?

In the early 1990s I remember ever time I'd read the Singapore Straits Times I would see that some group from the United Arab Emirates was visiting Singapore to learn about how the city state had grown it's economy. Now I'm starting to see that Trinidad and Singapore are signing agreements and working on tech projects together. This lead me to look at some info on Trinidad which is a small Caribbean country off the coast of South America. It also has a population of 40%+ of Asian Indians. I was just wondering if anyone had any thoughts with the Panama Canal being enlarged will this help turn Trinidad into the Singapore of the Americas.
