What's the difference between an ice cream and a gelato?

I've never tasted gelato before but they sure look the same as ice cream to me. What's the difference between the two, aside from the gelato being a tad more expensive than ice cream. And why is that so anyway, does it use different ingredients to make?

Hi, akiadranem. I always thought that a gelato meant an dessert that is made out of gelatin. Like jello. And ice cream is a smoother stickier food. Isn't that what gelato means..?

Erm, from what I know, gelato is an ice cream, but sort of an Italian version of it. They say it's the process of making them that`s different from making the regular ice cream.
