Shopping does tend to make you burn more calories than sitting in front of the television or computer. They used to have a game show called Supermarket Sweeps, I think, and the participants moved very quickly and probably got aerobic while they tried to outshop each other.

If I look back over an average week then shopping is often the only form of physical activity that I have taken part in - unless taking a coffee cup up to my mouth or typing away on the keyboard to post here counts too?
I certainly do try and walk to the shops and carry the bags home rather than taking the car and putting everything in it and driving back home.
So insteasd of saying that I am going shopping tomorrow afternoon, I can say that I am going on a 'mall run'? You think that will be more acceptable?

I have, and I think they even once tested this thesis somehow. It showed that you do burn a lot of calories indeed while shopping, especially if you go to several different stores! So you are completely right!

This is an interesting idea. And what you said is correct. Shopping can be a kind of sports, at least it is an exercise:) You have to go around the mall to compare to different brands, prize with the similar products. It can be an tiring job. It is also heavy to bring the goods after shopping.
