Is College a Scam?

I'm an undergraduate student and i'm getting to the point where i'm fed up with school. Really whats the point? I understand an education is important for the doctors and the lawyers but what about the rest of us? Some of the most successful people i've heard about dropped out of college...Bill Gates is a prime example. You pay the government for this education but it does not guarantee you a job! That just does not make sense to me. In some countries, a college education is free! Why can't America get on that bandwagon? Especially since there are no guarantees. Education is good, yes. But with the way America handles its educational system, I feel like i'm being scammed. What do you think?

I think it all depends on what you are planning to do with your life. Yes, you can do very well without higher education, many people have proven that. I know several people who have done well without a college degree and are happy with their lives. I also know people who spent 4 years in college only to end up not using their degree for anything.
But there are some areas besides doctors, lawyers, architects, and others that you do need a college degree. Some companies still prefer resumes with a college degree attached to it. And in some businesses, a degree can ensure a raise or a promotion in the company. Maybe you should consider what you want to do with your life and weigh in whether a college degree will benefit you or not.

I guess what I really want to do is the hardest question for me to answer. I feel like i'm just taking random classes and the government is benefiting off of my indecisiveness. Thanks for your input.

Mm one of the things you don't want to do in college is a bachelor of arts - teaching is the only place for you...

...You'd be surprised how many people go for it, and have out it a waste of time. Then needed to re-educate.

What are your interests, do you have a part time job? Then you could be looking at dropping out of school. College is for those who either...
a. Not sure what they want to do yet.
b. Have a part time job but not completely satisfied with it.
c. Wish to pursue an area of interest.

Well that makes sense. Before I started college, I did not know what I wanted to do with my life nor did I have a job. College was the only way to go.
