I need an easy recipe for spaghetti

Philippines

Hi everyone :) My parents will leave later and it's up to me what me and my siblings eat for dinner. I'm planning to cook spaghetti and I need to have some suggestions as to which ingredients I could use together. You see, I used to cook spaghetti but mom doesn't like it because sometimes I made it too sweet and other times too sour. I have tomato sauce, herbs like rosemary, tomatoes, prepared meatballs and pasta. Other ingredients that have been known to be used for sauce is tuna flakes, corned beef. Could anyone suggest a recipe for spaghetti? Pleas give a simple one because I'm just eighteen, I'm not a professional chef. Thank you :D

Well, I see you've already received some good suggestions. When I'm in a hurry to eat, I have a quick recipe for spaghetti that's essentially done before the noodles cook. I dice up some garlic and shallots (about a tablespoon each) and sautee them in a large-sized sauce pan over medium heat in some extra virgin olive oil. Throw in some salt and let them sweat down. When they're done, I open up a medium can of fresh tomato puree and just dump it in. Then I stir in some salt, pepper, oregano, thyme, parsley, basil and some red pepper flakes (sugar will cut the acid in a pinch, but I like the sharpness of fresh tomatoes). I let it simmer while the pasta boils. After about 8 minutes, I drain the pasta and throw it in with the sauce. As I'm stirring, I add about a tablsespoon of butter, some more olive oil and finish it with some nice parmesean cheese. If you wanted a really quick way to make spaghetti, you could use relatively the same ingredients. Just sautee the garlic and shallots in about 1/2 cup of olive oil, add a few herbs (not so many), and then toss the pasta in with some butter and adds tons of cheese. You could also substitute cream for the tomato and add in some olives and even more tons of cheese for a nice, thick cream sauce with the noodles. If you want a garden-fresh taste, try some diced carrots, onions, olives, broccoli, green and red peppers sauteed in the olive oil. Then add a splash of cream, a pat of butter and stir in the noodles for a mock prima vera. These sauces are totally light and healthy. I won't get into all the many meat sauces I try out.

"No-key" is how I say it. Silent g. I like it because most of the flavor is in the actual pasta, so you don't have to fuss over finding the perfect sauce to put on it. The potato, flour and egg gives is a soft texture, almost like a dumpling or a pierogi. And it's easier to make than biscuit dough.

Wow, thank you for explaining it clearly, I'm done cooking a normal spaghetti with meatballs but when I ran out of sauce (since there are more noodles than sauce) I'll try your suggestion. I like the garden-fresh suggestion and I'll go with my mom to the grocery to buy these ingredients. I like colorful food because they look lively and healthy. Thank you again matersfish ^___^ that was a great suggestion

First time I heard the word gnocchi, and I don't know the pronunciation too. That gnocchi sounds delicious. I'll try it later when I get home from school. I'm not quite sure though because I never know what it would look like but from your explanation, it sounds do-able. Ah, I also never knew what the butterfly-shaped pasta was called, farfalle, I'd like to use that when me and my mom goes to the grocery. Thanks for the great suggestions, and yes, I'll surely enjoy eating my cooking now that I've learned alot ^__^

Prepare the pasta according to package instructions. If it's not available then here's what you need to do: In a large pot, bring to a boil about 4 liters of water. Add 2 tbsp of cooking and 1 tbsp salt. Cook for 9 to 11 minutes. Drain the water and immerse the pasta in cold water to stop the cooking process. Drain again and set aside. For the pasta sauce, you will need the following: 1 medium sized onion, chopped Meatballs, you decide how much you want to put it 3 tbsp sugar 2 tbsp cooking oil 1 pack tomato sauce 1/4 cup water Salt and Pepper to taste (start with 1 tsp of salt and 1/4 tsp of pepper and the adjust to your taste from there). Instructions: In a saucepan, pour the cooking and saute the onion. After 1 minute, add the meatballs and cook for at least 5 minutes. Then pour the tomato sauce and water. Mix and simmer for about 3 minutes. Add the sugar, salt and pepper. You may add the rosemary as well or just use it as a topping. You're done! You can either mix the pasta with the sauce or serve them separately.

Glad to help! You can substitute the meatballs with tuna flakes or corned beef, if you like. Let me know if your siblings liked it.

I chose meatballs because the other two are in cans and my sib said that I should just choose one because there are not many of us who'll eat and I could just make another sauce for another batch because I made too noodles. My siblings never says anything about my cooking but they finished all the spaghetti so I guess they liked it (or they were very hungry lol) Thank you again ^_^

That sounds yummy. I love vegetables with spaghetti too. I haven't tried a spaghetti that has a spicy flavor. But I'd like to try it. I'm glad to hear that your kids love it as well, usually my sister doesn't like spicy food so I hope that she'd appeal to this when I try making some. Thanks for the suggestion :D I want to thank everyone who are kind to give efforts in posting great recipes I think I wouldn't have enough pasta noodles for all of those but I'll try them when the family wants pasta that is new to our appeal and palate. I also want to thank satenik on this post so that I won't have to make replies on all comments.

You can simply make use of ground beef, hotdogs and tomato sauce. Just saute the garlic and onions together and the add the beef until it gets cooked then add the hotdogs and cook it for a few minutes. You can then put the tomato sauce and season w it with salt, pepper and sugar. If the taste is good then its good to go. You can just garnish it with cheese.

Ah, I remember mom made spaghetti with ground beef and hotdogs and added a dash of sugar to make it sweet and I loved it when I was a kid and me and my little sister grate the cheese on top of it ourselves when we are going to eat ^_^. Thanks for sharing.

You just really need to analyze the taste of the sauce if that is not balance. Sometimes if you are not that contented with the taste the herbs that you've mentioned will be a big help plus you have to add the ground peppers so that it could have spices but not too much. You can actually try Puttanesca wherein you can put the black olives, herbs as well, capers, virgin coconut oil and parsley. If you want something different that tomato sauce does not involve then I would suggest that you have to try the Thai Chicken spaghetti that you will use the Java sauce, garlic minced, chicken strips, red peppers, shitake mushrooms and roasted nuts. Then your family will really love it. Here in the Philippines that Thai chicken you have mentioned is called the Charlie Chan Pasta that we have eaten that at Yellow Cab. My family loves it when I cooked that. Well you can search on the sites about different kinds of pasta. I've got the idea there that is why I was able to cook many kinds of pastas like spinach pasta. My suggestion there would be just use the tuna rather than corn beef but then you must play around with the sauce. Sometimes other visitors likes my spaghetti but then that is only an ordinary it is because we experimented on the herbs that we used.

I didn't realize that you were also living here in the Philippines. Of course there is no Yellow Cab in other countries that I thought it was originally made from USA because of its theme. Actually of course you can mix the tuna and meat balls with the sauce.

Ah, I didn't know Yellow cab is only available in Philippines. That's a pretty good trivia. I didn't mixed the tuna with meatballs because I'm limited with my sauce but I'll try having them together when I cook spaghetti again. I also learned a while ago about garden fresh spaghetti and I can't wait until tomorrow for me to cook another batch. ^_^ hehe, You're also here in the Philippines? That's cool, I know some Pinoy here too. :D

Hi, I tried out the link, can you teach me how'd you place it? When I paste it, there is that message that said that I can only paste when I have 500 rating. I would only paste links and not spam so I feel uncomfortable when I have to give out link and I have to type it with all the symbols and numbers.

Hi Oxyde..This is a basic recipe for marinara sauce. It's what they teach you as a basic sauce in cooking school. It is fast, easy and most of all delicious. Just add you meatballs to it, cook your pasta (el dante) and eat! If you have some good crusty bread, make some garlic bread or eat it as is. Good Luck! 1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil 1 small onion, finely chopped 1 garlic clove, finely chopped 1 celery stalk, finely chopped 1 carrots, peeled and finely chopped 1/2 teaspoon sea salt 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper 1 (32-ounce) cans crushed tomatoes 1 dried bay leaves Directions In a large pot, heat the oil over a medium-high flame. Add the onions and garlic and saute until the onions are translucent, about 10 minutes. Add the celery, carrots, and 1/2 teaspoon each of salt and pepper. Saute until all the vegetables are soft, about 10 minutes. Add the tomatoes and bay leaves, and simmer uncovered over low heat until the sauce thickens, about 1 hour. Remove and discard the bay leaves. Season the sauce with more salt and pepper, to taste. (The sauce can be made 1 day ahead. Cool, then cover and refrigerate. Rewarm over medium heat before using.)

Thanks for this great recipe. By the way, a trivia about marinara, there was a television series with the title marinara because the main character is a mermaid, it isn't related but I'd like to share. I like the ingredients since they are all natural and colorful because of the vegetables. It sounds hard but I'll try to manage. Thanks again sulsisels ^__^

I suggest you this one. Just try it. It's very easy and delicious. Cook the spaghetti and drain them. In a pan cook some ground beef (1/2 kg)with very little water just to make sure it is cooked. Add well chopped onion (1 or 2) and butter to the beef and fry it well.Add salt, black and red pepper (hot if you prefer) Don't over dry it. Add chopped parsley (we have it a lot in our country, don't know about yours. Add the ready beef to the spaghetti, mix it and ready. Good appetite.

Oh my little sister and I love hotdogs with spaghetti. We like it sweet like kiddie spaghetti in a fastfood. I should have thought of that. Ah, I miss those years when we love sweet spaghetti like kids.
