The origin of Chinese traditional martial art is imitating animals.People from ancient times in China imitated the animals' hunting and mixed it into human fighting. That's why Chinese dragon is a mixture of many kinds of animals. The dragon has eagle paws, fish scale, snake body, horse head and tiger's roaring.A dragon is a symbol of traditional Chinese culture, and it's the symbol of traditional Chinese KongFu,too. Ancients imitated animals and created martial arts moves and a series of skills and tricks in Wushu. But the moves and routines unsually are only performd for appreciation instead of actual combat. The reason is very simple. When animals are hunting, they act innately and liberal at forms instead of doing the fixed designed moves or routines and adhering rigidly to forms. All they have is a sense of survival. That is the soul of the Chinese traditional martial art:imitate the animals' spirits and idea, and be free to express ourselves in body lauguage with mental controlling. That is the true Chinese traditional martial art,not only for performing as dancing.

yeah, maybe westen dragon is more similar to the dinosaur, but the Chinese Loong is conceived from many kinds of animals in nature. They stand for different cultures I think.Chinese culture is 'swallow anything and everything'.
