In my country this superstition was extended to all cats. No matter what colour is the cat, it may bring you bad luck if it crosses your path.

In the same in my country.We have a lot of superstitions too especially the black cat crossing your way. But as I got older I knew these were all just claims. One day I really got so nervous to see a very black cat crossing my path and it made me think for a little while if I should change direction. But then I just scratched my head and laughed it out, shooed the cat away so I could continue walking not thinking of any bad luck that might come my way.

There are a lot of superstitions going around. Like how walking under the ladder will bring you bad luck, black cat cross your path, your shoe laces tore, breaking a plate, etc. However, it's more of what you choose to believe in. Different cultures have different idea of what brings bad luck and what doesn't. In Western culture number 13 is considered bad luck while in Japan number 4 is. It's all in cultural perspective. You don't have to believe in it but personally I don't like it when a black cat cross my path. I tend to believe more in karma, you reap what you sow.
