Hello hichoo, I'm from Suzhou,China. The city I live in is not far away from Shanghai. So my company organized all the clerks to go to visit the Shanghai EXPO.
We set off at about 7:00 AM, and get in the EXPO site at 9:00 AM.There's really so many many people, certainly, most of them are chinese from all parts of China.
We came to the EXPO in 29th,May,but I have to admit that the weather there was a little hot.You had to line up for a long time before getting in some famous pavilions. The deadline is 30th,October.And now is July,China is in the hottest season and all the students have enjoyed the summer vacation so they join in the visit.
There are about more than 300 pavilions in the EXPO sites which is vast,so you can't visit all of them in a single day.I spent about 12 hours there and visited 6 or 7 ones, getting the stamps~
So if you want to visit EXPO, I suggest you start in October cuz the weather maybe a little cool, and you'd better take a small stool and a hat with you because of the very very long que. There's a lot of washing rooms and rest pots and fast food restaurants and drinking water sites everywhere,so it's convenient. But you don't be allowed to take the beverages and waters into the EXPO site.
If you decide to go, I also welcome you to our city suzhou, which is an ancient city with about 2500 years' history and near Shanghai. The gardens here are so famous,I believe they deserve your visit :)

Oh,Thank you for your information.
Actually,I am Chinese too,now living in Shanghai
But I have not beeing to the EXPO yet though I know that is a big event.Because I am a little afraid of the hot weather and the endless long line.
I heared if you want to go to some famous pavilion, you have to wait around 5hours or more like the China Pavilion.
So I plane to go there when the weather turns to be a little cooler like you said around October.I hope then the line will be shorter
