I ...just can't understand the contradiction of the older generation

I'm a graduating student in Nanjing,China,and will get out into the world of work in 2011.I really wanna seek for opportunities in local,or city like Shanghai. But when i expressed my opinion,it was negated by my grandparents.They listed a series of problems such as the house prices,society pressure,painstaking life,and i can just act in the will of others.And when i said young people should devote themselves to work,the environment of workplace there is my favor and my speciality studying in college can be carried out and exercised in Deloitte&Louche,and other accounting firms,they directly responded "What ability do you have?" I just can't understand the fact that,they told me to study hard from my primary age,till the college,and was proud of me which i feel inconceivable,but the situation above seems to point that they just look down upon me,not a little. And in addition,i consider that,is or not,"they spend time and energy in getting knowledge just to be back home and acquire a position through somebody,get married,bring up kid and die'????
