Today I went to buy some old magazines, because I needed more pictures for my paintings (my paintings are mix of paint and pictures from old magazines) I had found an ad online, and an elderly couple had the magazines that I was interested in. When they heard that I was looking for pictures for my paintings, they told me that they had more magazines in the attic, and that they would get them for me if I was interested. They went through a lot of trouble just to help me. I think that was very nice of them, and I really appreciate that. When was the last time a stranger did something nice for you or helped you in an unexpected way?

when i went to japan to study i got into a little trouble on my 2nd day there. it was september and was hot like hell. i was walking around and got a little thirsty, but luckily japan has a lot of vending machines around (they say you even find them in the mountains for hikers. haha^-^). i went to a vendo to get myself a coke, and only then did i realize that i didn't know how to use a vending machine! m(_ _)m this is really embarrassing. i was there, feeling my aching throat and staring at my coke behind the formidable glass. i was about to give up but i saw an old man (an ojiisan) behind me, and he it seems like he understood my dilemma. he went to me, took my coin, and started explaining how-to-use-the-vending-machine in Japanese. he was very nice. i didn't understand him at all. but i got my coke~!(^_^)

It is a good thing that you got your coke When you are in a foreign country it can be difficult to use vending machines and things like that. I have sometimes been in similar situation for instanse when I wanted to use a ticket machine and didn't understand the instructions Tourists in my country often have the same problem, because in many situations the instructions are only written in Danish...

I also think that it was very nice of them to pick up the magazines for me, and I was very happy and I didn't expect that at all. I have received lifts from strangers a couple of times in the past as well. One time two strangers offered me a lift in Poland. They drove me from the airport to the bus station, helped me buy a ticket (I wasn't very good at Polish) and before they left they gave me their phone number and offered to show me around in their city and teach me Polish. I think that was really nice of them, after all I was a total stranger...

I always try to help others no matter i know them or not. Such great peoples are always around us and we should pay them due respect. Mostly peoples say that this is a new world and time has changed now you cant see good peoples and everyone is busy in its own but i always say if you will do good to others the same will be come to you sooner or later. Always stay positive. I really appreciate their effort to help you and plz plz if you can convey do tell them that there is a person far far way from in other part of world believe in their thoughts and trying to follow their attitude towards other humans. This kind of peoples are ideals for me.

I agree with that. I believe that the good things you do for others will return later, and that is my experience from my own life. I really appreciate this couple's efforts to help me, and the experience made me happy. I also try to help people when I can. That is one of the most important things I learned from my mother, and she is an inspiration for me, because she is very kind and helpful towards the people she meet.

In a most unexpected time that we get help from persons we do not know. In other words, we get help from strangers during the times when we least expect it. This reminds me when car got into trouble that I didn't know what to do. Out of nowhere came a person to help me.

It is true that we often get help when we least expect it. That has happened to me a couple of times, and I was really grateful for the strangers who helped me. It is good to hear that a person helped you when you had problems with your car.

I think most of people in this world is very kind, they would like to help others in any time. I remembered many years ago when I was in France, we lived in a small town near Paris, I've already forgot the name of it, one night we went out for a Chinese dinner, but when we went back to hotel, we were lost, there was no people and light on the road, we were scared, at that time we found only a small house with light on, we went there and saw a old lady was doing housework, we asked that how we can get to the hotel, she was very kind, and explained route in very detail and finally she said mabye you can drive my car there, wow, that exceeded our expectation, and we were impressed about this old lady, even long time ago, still we can not forget this lady and when we talk about people in this world we will think of her involuntary.

Thanks for sharing your story. I understand why you can't forget about this lady, and I think that it was so nice of her to help you that way. I often get lost when I visit a new place. I always try to bring a map, but sometimes that isn't enough. I remember one time while I was living in Italy. I was going to Rome, my friend's mother had given me the address of one of her friends and I was supposed to stay at her place while I was in Rome. I couldn't find the street where her apartment was, and I asked several people. One of them was very nice, she and drove me in her car.

Losing your wallet is a bad situation and when you can't buy the ticket that you need it is even worse, but I am glad to hear someone helped you get through the situation.

That was very sweet of the elderly couple to give you those magizines, I think you are going to treasure them and the art you make with them even more now because they came from a act of unselfishness and kindness. Just last week me and my husband help a guy that was in need. We where driving home from Loiusianna to Texas (our home) and we seen a guy walking along the road,he wasn't even hitchhiking he was just walking not bothering anyone. We I guess I should use the term walking lightly as it was so terribly hot out that day and he was more limping and nearly falling down each time he took a step. We turned around and asked him if he needed a ride. Now I know these days it is insane to pick up a hitchhiker, you really do not know who you can trust or not, but we took the chance. Turns out Darrell had been walking for 2 days trying to get to Houston to see his Mamma who was having open heart surgery the next day. She had a 50/50 chance of surving and he wanted/needed to be with her. To drive this route would only take 2-3 hours but he had to take a longer way around to avoid some prisons or he would be arrested for walking through that area. We wasn' able to help much as the ride we gave him was maybe 40-50 miles but it put him within 5 miles of relatives he could call to pick him up the rest of the way. Before we dropped him off my husbadn pulled into Church's Chicken and got him some food, turns out he hadn't eaten since 7 the previous night. This man asked for nothing from us and was so appreciative and we thinking about him and his family hoping that his Mom survived the surgery and they are all doing well.

Thanks for sharing your story. Yes, it can be dangerous to pick up a hitchhiker, but you did the right thing in that situation. It is great that you were able to help him, I hope that everything turned out well for him and his mother.
