I am getting company..my daughter and her family from New York. I have been busy spiffing up the place but last night when I started doing my ceiling fans I wondered why was I worried about cleaning them...after all on one is going to climb up on a chair just to check to see if they are clean or not...My sister failed to clean her's in her dining room and when the table was set and everyone was in place she turned on the fan as it had gotten stuffy and dust balls flew all over even landing on the guests plates....so I guess I have that in the back of my mind....do you clean everything from top to bottom when you get company? Do you have ceiling fans?

I guess it depends on who is coming to visit whether I clean from top to bottom or just top to middle. We just had my mother in law and her boyfriend over from Wisconsin and I did a full house clean before and yes I too cleaned but ceiling fans but mainly because they were dirty and needed it...I was suppose to do them at the beginning of the spring but didn't and them coming in gave me a reason why to do it. I thought the same thing about the dust balls because we have a fan over the kitchen table and one above the living room coffee table so if they werent to be cleaned they might get to the point where dustballs where flying off of my fan onto food as well...

I do not have ceiling fans in my home because they would whack me in the head. When I visit a home that does have ceiling fans those blades better be clean. I like to hang on the blades and go for a ride and get a little dizzy. I hate when I'm done and let go of the blade, I have very dirty hands. I can't touch anything in the house until I go wash them off. I noticed those fan blades with the wicker weaving in the center are the hardest to get clean.

I try to keep my ceiling fans clean by using a special brush that slips over each blade. I reverse the ceiling fan in this room when it's cold out. Last year I forgot to clean it and turned it in reverse and dust bunnies went all over the place in here. It was a bigger mess to clean up than it would have been to clean the fan prior to changing the setting. I learned my lesson. Once in awhile I will use Endust to clean them individually. Gets the blades really clean.
Enjoy your daughter's visit,

I clean the tables and floors and so on. It never occurred to me to clean the ceiling fans. I guess a few dust bunnies during dinner would have affected me too though.

Hi, jillhill. Yes, when I am having company, I try my best to clean things that may could be noticeable. I don't blame you for cleaning your ceiling fans. This is much needed when you are having people over. Someone will have allergies and it could make them irritable. I don't have any ceiling fans here. In my last home, I did. I tried to make sure that they were cleaned too.

I think cleaning ceiling fan is something people rarely do. I hate to clean, but my husaband is very interested in cleaning. I think ceiling fan is the thing in my house which is the most dirty. We clean ceiling fans once in a year or even once in one and half years. Ceiling fan cuts down the dirt in the air that we will breathe.

Hi Jill, I can understand you cleaning the fans if your sister had this unfortunate iccident with thedust with hers but when I am expecting gusts, I make sure that everything is clean and tidy but don't go overboard as within five minutes their stuff is everywhere, meticulous in the bathroom and the room they will be staying in but they just have to accept that I don'talways have the time to go scrubbing skirting boards or wiping the walls from my sons grubby pawprints. Huggles. Ellie :D

I have 4 ceiling fans in my house and I clean them regularly but I would still make sure to clean them if we were expecting company...especially if they're going to be staying here. I would hate for them to turn on the ceiling fan in the spare bedroom and have dust balls fall on them!
I use scented cleaning products and I think that a nice, clean ceiling fan gives off a fresh scent while it's running...and I like scents.

i don't clean arround much but when i do i thik of all the possible things that dirt could be, then i start to clean every thing up. I too think about when the quest will come what they will think about when something goes wrong.
So just to clear out that tension its better to clean up everything that you see so you won't regret if something unexpected happens.

I got ceiling fans in the apartment in my hometown when I was around 12,I can hardly now remember the scene of it was being cleaned by my parents, maybe I just miss the day when they clean through out the house.
Maybe I would clean my house when I get company, but not as thoroughly as u do,unless Michael Jackson wanna be my guest that day....

I am a big fan of cleaning up the house, particularly when you are expecting guests. Once I start cleaning I have to do it from top to bottom. Ceiling fans along with tops of cupboards are a pain, but once its done the house just feels so much fresher, without the stale smell of dust and grease.

I don't have ceiling fans anymore. In my last apartment I had one. And my parents have a ceiling fan in every room, two in the living room. The ones in the living room are so high I would have to get on a ladder to clean them. I don't like ceiling fans because they do get dusty. And when they are turned on, the dust gets distributed in the air and aggravates my allergies. I know they are handy if one is hot, but I'm glad I don't have one anymore. Was your sister embarrassed? I think I would have been. Did you guys eat everything?
