Fraudulant emails

Now I know there are people out there in MyLot that are sick of hearing about scam sites but what I would like to know is how do you tell you are being scammed when you receive an email from a legitimate company. I have been receiving emails from Microsoft and Tnt courier services claiming that I have won money in some European Lottery. Now I do play European Lotto but I didn't get suspicious of this being a scam until they told me in an email that I had to pay a few hundred dollars to get my winning cheque. So my question is how do you check whether or not an email is really from a reputable company or not? I did check the ptc-investigation site but I didn't find a listing with these company names and I didn't really expect to see Microsoft listed as a scam, so if anyone else has had a similar experience with fraud emails I would like to know how you dealt with it?

Herro Laurelle11 PLEASE run as fast as you can. Microsoft does not mail individual people. This a very common scam. TNT Courier, Run faster. The European lotto is one of the oldest scams. How do I know? I am not from the school of hard knocks, I have not fallen for this scam. When ever someone asks for personal information, name, age, address, phone number, etc. It is normally a scam. Any legitimate company that wants this info will send you a letter. Information like this is not passed over the internet unless you are signing for a program. Then make sure the URL says "https". See the "s" after the http? Never give personal info unless you are at a https site. Yes, you were wise to pick up asking for a "processing fee" is a scam. If you have any questions like this, please ask us here. We have lots of people with lots of experience and will give you suggestions. Prosperous mylotting

Thank you for confirming what I thought. I admit they had me going for a while thinking that I had won but I was still skeptical as the number they said won was different from the numbers that I actually have and I don't think I entered any competitions with Microsoft. Thank you again for your help. They wanted $650 to deliver me a cheque. A**holes.

its spoofing i think. Sometimes they add it to their letters to look legit.
