If you could recommend one book to a circulated list, what would it be? Tell the name of the book, the author, the genre (if you know it), a brief summmary and then tell why you would recommend it.

It is nice to see that you are starting discussions again my friend and I know reading is a good hobby and more people should spend time reading, and it is hard to pick one book to recommend because even though I do not read a lot I have several books I like to read,I guess one of the good books I would suggest would be The Emigrants which is by Vilhelm Moberg and I am not sure what the genre would be and it is about a group of Swedish people who are immigrating to America for a better life, and I would recommend it because it is a great story about the struggle of poor people who try to make their lives better.

The genre would most likely be inspirational and western I would reckon.

Thanks for the welcome. It is good to hear from you. Life got busy and I got a new laptop last year. I kinda forgot about MyLot because I did not transfer all of my bookmarks:) Never read it, but it sounds interesting and like something I would want to read. My favorite book of all time is Of Mice and Men by John Stienbeck. It is about characters all chasing the American Dream which is never really obtainable. I love the characters of Lennie and George. Great book. Hope to see you around

The Tall Stranger by Louis L'Amour. I really liked this book. It's genre is western and it's about a group of settlers moving from one part of the united states to another. They come across a trickster of a man and fall into a lot of trouble, trouble they could have avoided had they listened to one man in their party. I would recommend it to anyone who likes Western novels. It's a quick read and has really great detail and descriptions of places are great.

Louis L'Amour is a great author from what I hear, however, I have not read this any of his books. I really like the Lonesome Dove series of books and this one sounds like it is very comparable. This is one that I am adding to my list. You do a great job of recomminding it. Thanks

I am going to recommend the book "8 habits of highly effective people" by Steven R. Covey. As the title says itself, it talks about values that one needs to possess to be effective. Effective in so many ways cause the things we learn in that book is not only applicable for the things we do at work or home. It is effective anywhere.

LOL, we will fogive you this one time:) Don't let it happen again. Just kidding, I would be hard pressed to pick just one. YOu get one as a favorite and then at some point you read another that replaces it. Of Mice and Men would have to be my favorite. However, Suzanne Collins has come out with a series of books recently called Hunger Games, Catching Fire and Mockingjay (coming out soon). Awesome books!!!!!! You should check those out Jerome Jerome...guess his mom really loved him:) I have not read any of these, but am adding them to my list.

For me, it would be "Rich Dad, Poor Dad" written by Robert Kiyosaki. It's a must read especially in this time of world-wide economic trouble. Reading the book will let you learn rich lessons, "What the rich teach their kids about money, that the poor and middle class do not".

Well... I love to read, but I think that it's important to know what kind of books the person I'm talking to likes. I liked very much Aunt Julia and the Scriptwriter by Mario Vargas Llosa. There are two plans in this novel, one follows the love story between Marito and Aunt Julia and the other contains the stores written by the scriptwriter mentionned in the title. These stories are a delight. They are ironic and bright, their humor is amazing and from a certain point they become so involving that you cannot stop reading. I totally recommend this novel, it's the best and the smartest I read this year.
