Favorite Vampire? Favorite Vampire Book Author?

I post this question with the chance that I will be disappointed that most people will list the author of Twilight as their favorite vampire author, which will make me very sad, because I read twilight and thought it was badly written compared to the other novelists out there. For me, Lestat will probably always top my list of vampire character favorites, he was really my first vampire character to read about and introduced me to a fascinating world I only wished existed. Though I also love Jean-Claude for different reasons. Lestat is the pure isolated non-sensual vampire representing the isolated human soul, where Jean-Claude is very much the dark sensual side of ourselves. Favorite author is a bit harder. For years my favorite was Anne Rice, Laurell K Hamilton is favorite of mine, but her later books aren't as good though, and I do enjoy Kim Harrison but her vampires take the back seat the Witch main character though. So who is your favorite vampire and vampiric author?

Favorite vampire book author is Laurell K Hamilton and vampire would be Jean-Claude. I enjoy a lot of different vampire authors though - my second favorite author would be J R Ward, followed by Kerrelyn Sparks, Charlaine Harris, Kim Harrison, Stephanie Meyer, etc., etc. I have read Anne Rice's books; but, my favorite book of hers was not one of the vampire ones. It is The Mummy.

The Mummy was good. I read that one too. I haven't read Ward's series I have the first one around here somewhere. I have never read Sparks, will have to look that one up, I like Harris okay but not enough to keep following the books, and as you can probably tell I am not a big fan of Meyer's. Hamilton's first books were great but the later ones have sort of gone astray.

JR Ward is a fairly new discovery of mine. I came across one of the books in our library and enjoyed it so much (and, knew I needed to find out more of the "back story"; so, I went out and bought the entire series (up to this date). Kerrelynn Sparks I discovered a couple of years ago and I just pick them up when I see a new one. Stephanie Meyers almost lost me on the 2nd book. Of the ones she has written that one was the least interesting. But, the rest were better. I read a lot of vampire and other paranormal books and I enjoy most of them; but, there are only a few authors that I just have to have when a new book comes out.

I also read a lot of paranormal books. I trade for most of them on Paperbackswap which is a great website that lets you trade books for minimal cost. I have saved a ton of money using that site. I will have to check your authors out. Patricia Briggs and Kim Harrison are my have to have now authors. But since I started trading I don't buy many new books anymore basically just the ones I want in hardback and I usually get those from the Science Fiction Book Club. I don't have a lot of money to spend so I am content to wait until I can get them for a trade.

I should say Stephanie Meyer and all four books of Twilight. I am going to say that cause that the only vampire novel I've read anyway. lol I would like to read other books as well maybe its going to be as good as twilight but I am not sure which book I should read.

My favorite vampire authors are none other than the classic Bram Stoker and Kouta Hirano, who wrote the epic vampire manga Hellsing. Move over Edward Cullen, let Alucard wipe the floor with you. Seriously, if you want a better vampire story, read Hellsing.

Never read Hellsing. Might have to get around to it. Thanks for the suggestion.

Aww, definitely NOT Twilight. I agree that it is a poorly written, calculable, extremely cheap piece of pulp fiction. I could hardly bare to read even the first book. My favorite vampire author would rather be Stephen King with his version of Dracula that I enjoyed a lot. I haven't read Bram Stoker's book though, I guess it really would be time about now.

I have read part of Dracula but its all journal entries and letters which shuts my mind down. One of these days I will have to get all the way through it. Are you speaking of Stephen King's Salem's Lot? I have that around here somewhere but haven't read it yet.
