What would you call this?

Well I don't have a picture of it but it is a thing that has about three to four shelves, but the shelves have a door on it that opens up kind of like an ice box at a convenience store. I know that doesn't help much but was hoping people would have an idea on what to call it.
It has glass so you can see what's inside, so it's like a display case. My grandmother has one and it's pretty cool, yeah I know I'll probably call her and ask her what to call it, but I mainly wanted to know if anyone else knew what I was talking about because I don't know that I've ever seen them other then at my grandmother's.

I know when you first mentioned it I was not sure what you meant because I thought you meant something else that is in your grandmothers house, but when we talked about it I realized what you meant,I am not sure exactly what to call it but you could go on a furniture website and maybe find something that looks sort of like your grandmothers so you can get an idea of what is is called,I love you with all of my heart and soul.

Your grandmother might call it a "what not" or a hutch. I am trying to think what else, I wanted to say etagere, but I do not think they have the glass front doors. My grandmother had one, but it also had a little drop door desk built on and it would have been called a "secretary".

I know it's not a secretary, lol. It's not really a hutch as it doesn't have drawers at the top. I guess it'd be more of a "what not". I think it's more of a modern piece of furniture as while it look sturdy it doesn't look all that heavy (though looks could be deceiving) and I know she's not had it for years and years and years.
Oh I thought of something, some ice boxes open like a normal door... these doors open from the bottom!
Hmm well I'm going to ask her if we can have it most likely so when I do I'll ask her what she calls it.

Opens from the bottom? Might be what they call a barristers book case.

Well from the discription of an ice box at a convenience store I'm guessing you mean the sliding type doors? I would call this a curio cabinet. If it has a base then it would be called a hutch. If it's just shelves and glass then I believe the correct term is a curio cabinet. If you get a picture I would be interested in seeing it.

It's not very tall. It could be a curio cabinet, but it'd be a very unique looking one. I know I'm being so difficult. the doors don't slide, they lift up. It's like a bookshelf with doors on it basically!

Hi Cowgirl! From the picture it looks like a Hutch or Curio Cabinet
of sorts! They come in all different types, and if yours looks
like the one in the picture that is quite beautiful I love
those types of things that you can display nic nacs in and they
are safe from kittys and hands and dust! I have open shelves
and bookcases, but I would love to have something like this
for sure! When I first moved into my apartment (almost 30 years
ago) I took some furniture from the house I lived in with the
family. I still have some of the pieces and I bought some
new things. Saved me money back then and my livingroom is a
nice mix of old stuff and newer stuff and it all looks good
together.

Yeah I mean it's basically a display cabinet. Kind of short, and looks almost cheaply made. If I'd have to figure, the heaviest part of it would be the glass.
