If you're a writer, I would love to know how many among you write each and every day? And I also wanna know how many hours do you spend in writing? I'm just curious... Sometimes I feel like my day isn't enough to write everything I want to write... Please enlighten me that I am not alone in feeling this. Ha!

Well, I am definitely a writer through and through, but recently I've not had the time that I would like to be able to devote to writing because of the fact that I've got my children and my nieces here all the time and that means that I'm not able to spend time actually writing. Once my daughter starts back to school next month, I would think that I will be able to spend 1-2 hours working on my manuscript per day. I would love to have even more time than that for it, but until my son starts school I'll have to deal with what I can get.

I can perfectly understand the situation. I myself, being a single lady, still have a difficulty writing. I live with my parents and siblings. And there were times that I'm really in the good mood of writing but can't get through it because, everyone were walking to and fro, banging doors, chatting loudly, talking to me, entering and exiting my room, borrowing my laptop...etc. It's not easy to write when you are not focused and your attention is always distracted. I hope you can write again.... And good luck on your manuscript!

I probably spend about eight hours a day writing. I write for money and need all the money I can get so thus I spend a great deal of time writing. I enjoy it, and am now trying it for a vocation. Sometimes I might spend more than eight hours writing. It really just depends on the day, and what else is going on.

That is so cool that you get to write and earn money from it. I would love to earn more money by writing because it has been a hobby for me. I hope I could get more earnings with my writing. I'm happy for you, anyway, that you get to go on a vacation. Every hardworking writer deserves that!

Most of my writing (unless you count my online stuff which is more social stuff so I don't) falls into the category of creative writing or musical writing so I don't write every day. The reason behind this is that those sort of writings take inspiration to do well, otherwise the end result is almost never an amazing quality piece of work. I just write whenever the inspiration comes to me to do so.

I am trying to get into writing, I use to be good at it but I am sure it is like everything else the more you practice the better you get at it. I recently started writing a book, I got as far as 20 000 words. I would love to have that feeling of not having enough time. I would like to know how do you start do you plan and do you look five moves ahead. Maybe you can help me and we can exchange advice...

Hello kaka10! I've published a short novel book in our country. It's written on my language, so I cannot share it with you :) Anyway, the first thing I remind of myself is to bring pen and paper everywhere I go. If not, I always have to bring my cellphone with me. So that when new ideas come, I can jot them down instantly and will have to review and re-write them when I finally get home. I'm not of a planner. I write what comes in my mind. But I've learned that it's easier to plan ahead. It gives you enough time to analyze every situation on what you want to write about. I've started a blog about writing. Perhaps you could come and visit and follow. I have written few more tips there. I would love to share them with you!

same here. i am not a professional writer, i just maintain blogs and such, but i write everyday. i think it is a habit that one develops in his youth. my english teacher impressed on me that one should write, inspiration or no inspiration. i came across this caveat many years later when a prominent local writer in my country complained that writers should be able to write even when they are uninspired. i certainly understand the feeling of being "uninspired" and encountering a "block", but more often than not i find myself holding a pen or typing on my keyboard, writing my thoughts.

True! Actually, I don't really believe on "writer's block". Because if you are really a writer, you'll be able to write with or without an inspiration. Perhaps what we're experiencing are the moments when we badly want to write but cannot find the right word to express it.

hello
I write for some of the article websites but i write less because i dont have that much of time to write something on internet .
Well i write poems in my punjabi language whenever i am free or whenever i get some kind of thought . I write for passion but writing is not my profession .
If you like writing then go on dont ever stop because writing is the only way with which we can describe our thoughts imaginations and feelings no one can stop us from doing that .
Good luck .

I spend about one to two hours doing actual craft,I spend about another hour just doing things like Mylot or blogit.Which I don't consider really serious work but it helps to prime the creative pump so to speak. Additionally I spend an hour writing emails are going to events to write about them. So I would say on average my job is 5 to 6hrs a day but the actual writing is only one to two hours but of course this all changes if I have a show were I'm suppose to be networking and smiling for hours and hours. This weekend I pull about 36hrs in actual job time in over the course of 3days.I think averagely I work 60 hours a week,Its a good thing I like what I do.

That is great... There were just some hours when I want to write but can't. I have scheduled myself a time for working my manuscript. But there were times that I just stared blankly on the screen and don't have any other idea what to write. I wish I could write as much as you do... Lately has been a struggle for me...

The ideal is four. Perhaps four hours of writing and four hours of reading. Then there are other days when four hours of writing seems not to be enough. It all depends on your priorities and your schedule during a given week. If in some seasons writing is more difficult, it is because of things going on. Other times, no good stories come to mind or a writer may be working on a draft or a scene or planning something about a character. Perhaps the writer is researching and is unable to write a certain amount of hours per day. The important thing is to find a time in the day when it is convenient and write as much as possible. Whether that is in a ten minute block or four hour block has to be determined by the particular writer.

Hey, thanks for this comment. It is very helpful. I will keep in mind that every writer is experiencing hard times on writing. Sometimes, I stress and force myself too much on writing. Where in the end, the result is no good.

Right now while I am getting two of my blogs up and running I am doing more html coding than writing. However, I try to write at least one article for each blog a day. For me the revision process is really longer than the actual writing. So I would say I spend an average of about 2-3 hours a day writing and revising.

That is true. Revising is quite harder than writing. You can write down all you want. The sorting out is not easy because you have to make sure that everything is perfectly written.

With my full time job taking most of the hours each day (except weekends), I could devote to writing just an hour a day or so. Writing is my hobby, and I just enjoy spending the hour, and also making some supplenemtal incomes. Of course, over the weekends, I can devote more time for writing articles, short stories, reviews, commentaries, and so on.
