How are the Traffic rules at your Place?

Hello friends, Today, early in the morning I had to go to a place which is about two hours drive from here. It was raining heavily. And, I had just reached the Highway and was greeted with a heavy traffic snarl. A big trailer got struck while crossing a sloped ridge. Due to which other vehicles were having a hard time make a way from the trailer. Every person were in such a huge rush that nobody wanted to get some other vehicle in its lane. Resulting in a heavier jam. It was early morning about 6:30, visibility was low due to rain and smog, and the last thing one could wish for is a jam like that. I had to be very skillful in order to get away with it before almost hitting an overtaking car from my left. ( We are Right hand Drivers so to overtake from the left shouldn't be practiced). I find that the traffic in my city or even at other parts of my country is very rash. And if one does not resort to rash driving then you are sure gonna hit someone or maybe a speeding car will come and hit you. So the best possible option is to be a rash driver yourself. (The philosophy of Offense is the best Defense works wonder) I atleast counted 05 major accidents to my way to my destination. How are traffic rules at your place? Is it very disciplined and systematic or is it like being rash rasher and rashest is the cool thing to be? Are road accidents very common? Are traffic rules very stringent? Please share. Bodhi

Traffic rules here in our country are not that good. Or should I say it is good but it is not implemented like it should be. The authorities here are so lame and corrupt that is why the traffic situation has gotten worse.

hi Zenki, I have been to the Philippines ;last year and it is more or less the same as of Mumbai the city where I live. But if I have to make a comparison I would say Mumbai is worse than Manila and the traffic police are as corrupt as anyone could get. Sigh!

hi I am in the heavily traveled Southern California where we have a zillon freeways and p eople look at the speed limit of seventy and pass you like you are sitting still.our laws are pretty good but people still speed and highway patrol does pull them over and ticket them.Road accidents are rare on the freeways but more common on the streets. In orange county a lot of streets need to be resurfaced badly and this and stupidity go cause more accidents.traffic rules are strict if drivers goof off. but now its tourist season and the highway patrol can be short handed at times so more silly accidents happen now.

Hi Hatley, It is good to know that people usually follow traffic rules there and highways er.. freeways are more or lees free from accidents. It is quite the opposite here, silly accidents like a dent or something is very common in the town roads but fatal accidents are equally common in the freeways. There isn't any stringent law against speeding here. Stay safe, Bodhi

well, I'm in the U.S. and I'm in Texas, so it sort of depends on where you are used to be truck drivers where the best drivers, but now... well, at least HERE we have a whole lot of drivers who seemed to have gotten their lessons in big trucks in a whole other country I had a friend who was teaching English to a guy from Nicaragua and in the few years we knew him (only taught him about 8 months) but we ran into him off and on, he had totaled 5 cars and trucks... scary
