Cutting back because of the economy?

What are some of the thing you've cut back from doing because of the state of the economy. Many people are still unemployed, or working small jobs just to get by. In my position im working as a temp, but making enough for myself because i'm a college student still living at home. But a few things I've cut back on doing is getting my hair and nails done by professional and started doing it myself. I've also cut back on shopping. I'm only picking up a few things here and there. What about you, what's your story?

I plan my errands now so that I drive less frequently. I started buying cheaper cuts of meat, and looking for more savings at the grocery store. I use coupons and I buy the less expensive store brand intead of the name brand item. I cut my own hair now. I go to the public library for free movie rentals and found some things to do that are free. I bought a motorcycle to save on the gas consumption. It is a trade off, the money I save in gas pays for the motorcycle. I joined mylot and I also joined a number of survey sites to make better use of my time that I spend in the wonderful world that is the web.

Thank you for your comment, and I think a lot of people start buying store brands instead of the name brand. I too also join more survey sites and join mylot for extra earnings. And if you would like a very popular movie website that you can view just about every movie ever made online for free here is the site, totally legit. bedroommedia.com Instead of driving to the library check that site out on the computer or as you say "the wonderful world that is the web" lol. and good luck w/ everything!!

i'm trying to cut back on small things here and there. such as turning off lights more, being sure to unplug electronics, not using so much warm water, eatting less(i need to cut back on eating anyway),doing more when i drive out to reduce additional driving trips, not pressing on accelerator as much or as hard when driving, driving when theres less traffic, as well as any extra things to reduce spending if i get more ideas. the list can go on but every little reduction in spending adds up and can go a long way.

To Elmiko, I too do the same things you've done, and I've heard it all. Tips on saving gas, unplug electronics when they're not in use, wash colored clothes in cold water, things like that. btw thank you for your comment! To 2004cqui i understand where you're coming from. I stop doing things that aren't really needed. And I only have 2 credit card bills and my car payments are my only responsiblities.

My husband and I are saving for a house. He is the only one working right now. We've been kind of doing things that we want because we've had the money to do so, but now that we're serious about looking for our own place, we've cut back on going out to eat, and shopping also. I think we're going to take care of the bills before doing any major shopping. We will still shop for Christmas, but I hope to make a few dollars here and there for amazon gift cards to help with spending for Christmas. We don't go out anywhere really unless it's helping us because of gas expenses etc. My husband drives 20 minutes to and from work on the day's he works but can still get gas only once a week.

I will put it plain and simple... Living... LOl.. Kidding kind of sort of.. I just am not able to go anywhere which will cost me anything, do any thing that will cost me anything and basically buy anything that will cost me anything. So that is why I feel living. I am unemployed for the first time in my entire life. Having given a company so many devoted loyal years to end with nothing, well doesn't leave me in a good predicament. We just have to really know what we need and hold back on what we don't and hopefully learn from it all. Have a great night.. at least is night time over by me..

Hi, thank you for your comment, and I understand the state of this economy has made many downfalls, the fact that you devoted so many years to your career cost you a lost in the end is what half of america is dealing with. Its tough out here, but we just have to stick in there. Good Luck w/ everything. Peach and Love!

I think that you can find a stable job in the future. Cut back on shopping perhaps help you save money temporary, but if you have not stable income, you will be in trouble. As a college student, makeing enough for yourself is very good.

Oh! yes, you have done the right thing. We should adjust to the situation, when the economy is in crisis. Me and my husband are both working parents, before when the kids was still on their elementary years, we always dine-out during weekends, birthday celebrations, sometimes overnight stay on resort. Now, that they are in college and school fees are so high, we have to cut-out everything, no more dine-out in restaurants, we just cook something special on sundays and birthdays, we no longer stay on resort to cut expenses, we seldom use the car, we are riding on public transportation to cut on gasoline, we have to sacrifice, for us to survive in this economic crisis, since the purchasing power of money is not very strong, even our jobs pays well, it's still not enough for a family with 5 members.

We have no control over the state of economy;however we have full control over our own plans and actions. We must be determined to find ways and means to get over the financial problems caused by the economic downturn. There are also various kinds of opportunities that emerge out of the falling economy. You have only to look around your surrounding environment and sincerely attempt to pick up one that suits your skill, interest and goal. I have not yet faced any such downfall in my overall financial matter. My recent involvement in a local multi-level marketing (networking) has greatly increased my monthly earning. Thanks.

Thank you for this comment, and I have adventure out to find ways to make money on my interest and skill level, via interent, and I'm still working and going to school. I honestly run away from marketing jobs, because they're just not for me, but again thank you for your opinion.

Hey keshia2007r! Well the recent things that I have cut back on is my computer, I don't use it much, as it wastes a lot of electricity. At night time, I used to leave my computer on, and then wake up in the morning to find my computer at my convenience. Now, however, I turn my computer off at night and I rarely use it during the day. I only use it for maybe four hours of the day. The rest of the time, my computer is turned off. I also used to have high speed internet, but I have cut back on that. Not just because it saves money, but because I don't need that much speed and usage because I don't use my computer a whole lot anymore. Another thing I have cut back on is shopping and junk food. I used to shop a lot and buy new shoes, or the nice pair of jeans for eighty dollars. Now I don't even go out too much. Too busy with work, you know? Also I stopped buying junk food, which is very good for my health, because you could fill a stomach up with a bunch of apples. The apples that would cost you four dollars, could manage you throughout the week, maybe two weeks. Chips, on the other hand, could probably only last you a day or two. Those are basically the only things I have cut back on. Other things, not so much. Well, I guess that's why we're on myLot. Have a great day and also have loads of fun myLotting here! Punjab911

Hey thank you for your comment! I've also done some of the things you've done as well. One of my example is, instead of buying a soda from the gas station for $1 just for one, you can go to walmart and buy maybe 6 for $2 something. The smart way is the best way. Peace and Love!
