As argentinian i must say that Diego has brought to us much joy when he was a football player, many times, sadly he went on drugs, but even though he could fight that and now he seems to be ok. His performance as a couch on the World Cup 2010 was not too bad... what do you think of him?

Maradona as a player was brilliant. How he single-handedly won the World Cup in 1986. Beside his exploits at the World Cup, he turn Napoli into a powerhouse in the Serie A. As a coach, the verdict is still out. While Argentina had a poor qualifying campaign, they did lit up the world cup. So I am glad that he is given more time to prove his credentials as the coach of the national team.

well, but a goal with the hand, that a referee gives as valid, will be not the first and not the last indeed!

Diego Maradona - Diego Maradona one of the greatest football players to come from Argentian. Now employed as the head coach of the national squad.
It is true he was a very gifted football player in his day, but as a coach I am not so sure. I think he is only there because so many Argentinians love him so much. He has a great backroom staff and a talented team of football players on the pitch. So as a coach I am not convinced... As a Scotland fan I would give him 10/10 for his goal against England which has been nicknamed 'The Hand Of God' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-eZhBCqh8l8

yes, what the press here says about the talented team is that they play abroad, they are not used to play together, for example as the spanish team. Anyway, the hand of god goal, was a great goal!

I think Maradona was a great player. He single handedly won Argentina the world cup and took them to another finals appearance. As a coach though tactically he is not great. That is known to everyone. But for a talented team such as Argentina it is more important to have a person who can inspire them and who can tell them how to be there and do that. I think that is the reason why Maradona has been reasonably successful with them. But he is shown up when it comes to the big teams such as Germany!! Cheers! Ram

Thank you very much for your answer... and actually for your opinion! Really to see how he played in his good times was very inspiring, for the love to the "shirt" as he says. And for sure, just to have him in front of you, would be inspiring... Gracias!

As a player, no doubt about it, he is a LEGEND, even in Argentina he is like a GOD. Despite his"Hand of GOd`s goal" and his lifestyle, people adore him. But when he became a coach, there were so many controversies, especially when Argentina almost failed to qualify and had to play against Uruguay in play-off whatsoever...And unfortunately, Argentina had to go early in the World Cup 2010 after losing dramatically 0-4 against Germany. Argentina played beautifully, but it seems they didn`t know what to do after early goal by Mueller. They were shocked, panicked and shattered. Maradona didn`seem to have special tactic to overcome Germany, while we saw how successfully Khedira,Oezil prevented Messi from roaming around. But still, people forgive Maradona. Maradona is also known as supporter of Latin America`s leftist leaders, and he makes friends with Hugo Chavez, Evo Morales, Raul Castro etc ( that is one of the points I like from him, even though I am not Latino). Maradona is considered the best player and an unique figure, but it would be better if he resigns as a coach

I think he was the best player ever when he played himself, but I think he does not really know what he is doing when he is coaching. Argentina did better than I thought though, so I guess they were not that bad after all, though!

Hahaha He was a good player on of the best and hey good luck to whoever gets him as a couch he would have a world cup winning couch infront of the tv that would give some good coaching tips haha to the fridge. All seriousness he was one of the greatest, he is loved in Argentina even though he didn't make it all the way to the finals must say alot about the guy

In Argentina his fans have created the Maradonian Church, they believe he is the best player of all time. it is a type of syncretism. It exists in 60 countries around the world. There are the 10 commandments: 1.- The ball must not be stained, as D10S has proclaimed. 2.- Love football of over all things 3.- Declare your unconditional love to football. 4.- Defend the colours of Argentina. 5.- Preach the words of D10S all over the world. 6.- Pray on the temples where he preached and on his sacred mantles 7.- Don't proclaim the name of Diego in name of an only club. 8.- Follow the teachings of the Maradonian Church 9.- Let Diego be thy name and thy one of your children 10.- Dont be a hothead and dont let the turtle escape from you
