Hello lotters,
Last Saturday I was able to watch this movie in HBO. well, i have to admit, this is not as controversial as the "Da Vinci Code" because that movie tells about rumored gods true origins that he was human and married to magdalene.
but this movie is about so called secret societies going against and infiltrating the Catholic Church.but this time, this enemy aims to be a Pope himself after all the conspiracies that he created,he still failed and kill himself in the process for getting busted.
here is the entire plot..
not a referral link.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angels_%26_Demons_%28film%29#Plot
this reminds of Lucifer falling into Satan after a failed revolt.
it reminded also of harvey in the batman movies, who went bad after loosing his girl and having a half ugly face.
finally reminded me of a game about the greatest jedi falling into the darkside.

* I learned the greatest good person can fall into deep sin. that's why WE have to be balanced[/u][/i][/b]
after watching that movie, it made me thank god for having atheist around.
i guess they too have reason why they exist.

This is good movie, but i like better the hype and the interest the DA VINCI code has generated, even the church contributed in hyping it by banning the film to the catholics..hehe
Going back to the Angels and Demons film, conspiracy films, secret societies etc. are a fun to watch, makes you think that they are actually existing, I recall a quote from "bones" tv series how mr. bugman says that to think that secret societies don't exist is so naive..

I tend to disagree with you. Yes, there are a lot of people who are selfish and use religion for their purposes. But remember that in the name of religion a lot of good also happens. History is proof that more people have done good deeds in the name of religion than atheists. Similarly, one can argue that more bad deeds have been done in the name of religion than atheists.
I personally think that it finally boils down to individuals as if an individual is greedy he would use any tool that he has at his disposal including religion!!
Cheers!

I think then you have missed the point the story is trying to make. In the end the person fails, so if you are going by the story in the movie, it is clear that finally the good comes through :)
As for as cheering you when I disagree... nothing states that I should be disagreeable in disagreeing... I can be graceful and still disagree...
Cheers!

yeah, I know Good prevails evil. but what am trying to say in this movie is that "THERE ARE LESSONS LEARNED" from the movie not just the Illuminati thing and some facts that people disbelieved. it's something we should remember if we try to be TOO literal and principled in every religion.
I didn't miss the point, i just trying to emphasize what's the lesson of this movie. the lesson is shown, "my way or the highway" of preserving the faith is wrong. sorry, but i think you miss the point of my discussion, and that means the lesson of this movie besides Good triumphs Evil.

What about good deeds for "WHAT" intentions. was it choice or manipulated.
the movie presented itself that the person who has knowledge of military and science who is the priest actually tries to conspire in turning events that would make people deceived into choosing "HIM" as the pope, i mean, he went all through that just to become a pope.
my story tells a lot of individual who uses religion as an excuse to be seen by others as good, but to repell others from seeing their bad sides.
I am not talking about history, but am more specific of what's happening now a days. actually, this has happened before in the ancient times, i just couldn't believe it's still happening..that is Hypocrisy.
one thing, how can you cheer me up when you disagree to it

Hello crazydaisy,
I think the Church fears of loosing control, as they are already experiencing it. i believe God gave us free will otherwise, we wouldn't SIN at all.
Da Vinci COde was controversial, as for me, it shocked as i read the book, but my faith made me stronger because i know it's just a film.
as for the Angels and Demons, it was more of a power struggle and conspiracy just to became a pope. much the XXX part 2 when the secretary of defense conspired to kill the President and Vice President so that he will be elected President.
Angels and Demons for me is more acceptable than Da Vinci Code.

science and the church cannot co-exist with each other, science is the way of future while the church is the old goat path, religion is only for traditional people while science is for people that are too curious. That's why there are too many problems that are occurring today because of religion. Ex. middle east, islamic fundamentalist and the islamic extremist, sunni and the shiite, the west and the islamic countries and of course christians vs. muslims. people tend to kill each other because of difference, they differ in religion, thinking and culture. I hope all the people will someday be enlighten and just woke up and tell to their selves hey why do we kill other people in the name of whatever god there is, why should we do this and that i just hope that people will someday realize that the future is not in whatever god they believe but themselves.
PS. There's no god only aliens :p

hello wolf,
of course science and religion can co exist. it's how you used them when the situation presents itself. there are things that science can do and some things that only your faith can be depended on.
well, don't focus too much on the islamic extremist, they're not the only terrorist or racist who wants to have their religion, dominant to the world, that's open mindness is important to all.

by the way, does anyone have a question in mind, which involving religions function in society nowadays?
does angels and demons really exist? or is religions exist just as morality guidelines for human races.
refer back to the dark ages, the catholic churches controls most of the government bodies in Europe.
anyway, for me it's just the matter of belief and faith.

i watched the film just for the sake of seeing it. because i really love the book. even like it better than da vinci code. i started making ambigram after reading it and found out that Illuminati is real. only not as how it was depicted in this story. as far as i remember (in the book), although the methods are not something we could think of as righteous and just, the main villain's goal is actually to put back everything to faith in God and separate science from religion. it's not really that he fell into deep sh!t because of power trip. he had his own opinion of religion and being religious and he didn't like the way his master or the Pope before him, made efforts to as if reconcile with science that's why he killed him. he wanted every beliefs about creations to remain as is and don't like science interfering with it. just like when the church imprisoned Galileo for theorizing that earth is not the center of the universe, contrary to what the church usually teach before (probably the reason why in this story, said scientist is part of the Illuminati). in other words, he fell into deep sin because of his "own" faith. people always have their own opinions and own way of doing things. for religion, his goal is not as bad as it seems but the end does not always justifies the means (or maybe it never did).
i personally think science and religion can always work together if each can accept what each can't explain. even in his latest book, dan brown had something about their integration, which made me think he's not a hardcore atheist. he just merely wanted to present possibilities after all, he's a fiction writer (i still think it was the way people reacted on his first book that the church branded him as an atheist). religion i believe is not the absolute truth, however i look at it. since, it's part of a society's culture, it has so much variations. it differs from one society to another. but as part of a culture, it indeed had done a lot of great things for us. some people stay on the right track just by having their faith.
and i do agree with you, that if everything else is made possible by God, i'm sure atheists are included. the secret is to open our minds, whether you're an atheist or pro-God. in every battle between two "whatever/whoever", both sides will always have their strong points and valid arguments. if atheists read dan brown while people with strong faith read paolo coellho, why not read both?

I have not seen the movie and it sounds like it’s worth seeing! It is true that a balanced life is a healthy one physically, emotionally and spiritually. Everyone has a reason for being here, atheists too. It is a matter of personal beliefs. There are many good people that have done much for humanity and they happen to be atheists.

hello Paula,
i believe it was more of a power struggle since the enemy was a disguised hero pretending that he's helping langdon to solve the case. where infact he was the instigator or mastermind of it. it gives a good reason not to judge everybody by their religion or what they believed in.

Hello Ifa,
What happened in the movie shows what people in the ancient times had been doing, and that means fooling people into doing stupid things, just to worship them. if they have no reason to exist, then GOd wouldn't allow them at all to exist, we won't even have atheism in our dictionaries or in our societies.
i would they prevent us from being fooled by people who use science to stipulate miracles.

I have never thought of being thankful to the atheist until now. Robert Langdon is an atheist but he was the one to save the church. It's like the parable of the good samaritan in the bible. The samaritan would be the atheist and the man that was robbed would be the church. Of course it doesn't mean that the purpose of the atheist would always be saving the church because they also need to be saved too

Hello hexe
i think this happens in reality but the thing is that there is no Robert Langdon at all. people are using science to struck miracles and deceived the crowd. this is why am not so literate about being a catholic. sometimes you gotta listen to some atheist to prevent yourself from being deceived.
Chiang and Islander, your response PLEASE

Hello Mr.fdg,
I didn't give a damn about the Illuminati or the book (what ever it is), what concerned me is the lesson of it. and that is power struggle, it happens everywhere. politics, business, showbiz, everywhere. i guess this says even in the church power struggle can also exist.i didn't give a damn about the library as well, although it's cool to have that kind of chamber

I have not watched the movie and for books that have been transformed into movies like the bourne series too, i always fail to get the messages well enough when compared to the books, which are well structured and illustrated.
I read the book and i was glad i did, Angels and Demon was another great book by Dan Brown. The enemies of church have risen against the church and the only reason why this is so is because they percieve they can handle the church better than who is in-charge, their thoughts are that they have a better understanding why the church is created.

helo shy,
i would get sleep if i read the book. i believe it's still power struggle and obession of being the pope. the ending was a bit shocking to me, but when he parachuted down from the helicopter, i noticed there was something really wrong with the character that he may have something to do with it, and BANG right on my ears.
