Do you listen carefully to your children or your students or other people?
I am not so good in listening to others.
want to know your view.

I think it is so easy to get lost in all the noise in the world that we forget to listen the one thing I learnt as a waiter was to listen. I wasn't a bad listener before then, but waitering taught me to listen intently to whoever is talking to you. I would say I am a good listener and the key is to focuse completely on the person talking to you and respond when it is your turn.

Hi kaka,
Yes that is very true. when you are required to put your attention at a paticular thing, whatsoever noise outside, they do not seem to be entering into your ear, cause you are concentrating more on your work. This is undoubtedly a sign of a good listener.
There is a difference between hearing and listening. we hear a lot of sounds but listen to a special thing at a time.

Yes ,I do listen to others carefully and if we listen to other than only they listen to us and if they does not listen when we were speaking, we feel shame and instate. they don't bother whether we say important thing or not.We have to pay respect to the speaker who ever it is .

Hi hilar,
Nice post indeed. As for me a good listener is he/she who can stand out the children and students as well. Many people do not tolerate the children and their curiosity filled questions to answer. On the contrary many are chided for making noise or putting irrelevant (?) questions. This is undoubtedly a bad gesture. We need to help our children focus on various things at a time. It helps building up their personality and also increases their IQ.
I myself being a college teacher have to listen to a number of academic related issues. If they fail to comprehend well then too listen to them carefully where they are getting stumbled. To locate the paining boil and repairing it after listening to them take out a lot of energy and concentration. But you can not run away from the reality. If you do you run away from yourself.
so I feel one needs to cultivate this art of listening before presenting oneself before this two particular community - children and students.
Thanks.
