Quitting smoking again tomorrow, hopefully for good this time

I've been taking the drug Champix for a week now and am going to quit officially tomorrow. It's too expensive and bad for my health and I really want to stop this time so hopefully it will work for me. I haven't bought any tobacco with me today to my voluntary work and am not suffering too badly with the cravings, I find it harder at night and I have partner who still smokes and doesn't want to give up yet so that will be tough. It's the first time I've tried to quit withut any form of nicotine replacement but the champix seems to really help with the cravings too so hopefully it won't be too tough.

I'm thinking about that but we live in a flat that's two storeys up from the garden so he'd have to go up and down the stairs a lot to do that.

I am excited that you are making this step. It is a very hard habit to break. Your partner smoking will make it harder, but we know you can do it.

It is hard watching someone else smoke but I really want to stop this time as it's so expensive and bad for your health. It seems stupid to pay through the nose to make yourself really ill and maybe ultimately die.

That would make it twice as hard with a partner who keeps the temptation around. I'm sorry. But don't give up. You'll feel so much better. I know it's easy for me to say because I don't smoke. But I have noticed a difference in people who have quit smoking. They seem happier. I mean when they were quitting they weren't happy, who could be? You have a lot of people here rooting for you!

It's only 3 days before all the nicotine is gone from your system and I'll go on taking the pills for about 12 weeks I think. I did quit before with other people smoking around me so I'm confident I can do it.

How are you doing with your quit? I've been thinking of trying to quit. I've tried to quit before, but didn't last more than a few days. Have you been having any side effects from the Chantix?

For the first few days it made me feel sick when I first took it, but they did warn me about that you just have to take it with food and that corrects itself. Don't give up on quitting it's always worth trying again. You have to be at point where you really are ready to quit for it to work.

Wow Good Luck to you! I quit cold turkey for 6 months then got into this slump with my finances, right wrong time to start back up. Anyways my boyfriend is a heavy chain smoker and buys them for me even though I tell him not too.
If you do not mind keep me posted on the chantix and is it really expensive to get, I have heard a lot of good and negative things about it.
Best of Luck!

Well Good Luck to you, hope you can stick with it and have no side effects from it. Here in US there is no where to get it for free and I understand it is very expensive.
However, I am told by others who have used they were very successful with it. So I wish you the best with it and in event it begins to cause any signs of side effects make sure you try really hard to recognize the early signs.

Hello Nancyrowina. Good luck, quitting is hard but it can be done, a friend of mine recently quit and she's determined not to start again. I have never tried to quit so I don't know what it's like but well done for deciding to give up.

Good for you for trying especially since your partner is not making it easy for you. But anything you put your mind to, I believe you can do. I had a friend once who smoked until her boyfriend who was not a smoker nagged her for the last time and then she did two things: 1) She stopped smoking, and 2) She got rid of that boyfriend. I nagged her about her smoking, too, but she did not get rid of me as a friend. Clearly they had other issues. But the most amazing thing about my friend is when she smoked her skin was sort of gray and dismal looking and about 3 months after she quite, her face became beautiful, with radiant pink glowing skin! When she saw how she looked such a relatively short time after having quit, she vowed to never ever smoke again under any circumstance. She was 55 when she quit.

I've quit before and you feel better so quickly after you stop, you get less out of breath when walking and your skin improves etc. I never really noticed my sense of taste getting better but my sense of smell definitely did.

Yes I hope he will quit for the sake of his own health, but he has to do it when he's ready.

You might want to take up gum chewing or something along those lines to off set any oral gratification issues that might come up. Hope it works for you. Tough having someone around that is still smoking though. That does sound like it would be tough. Good luck to you!

I don't find it that hard having people smoking around me for some reason, I suppose it's because I have my own reasons for giving up and I just stay focused on those.

Good luck in quiting. You should really try to persuade your partner to quit. Second hand smoke is just as deadly as smoking yourself. One day at a time.

Yes I don't want to hassle him as I know how annoying that is, but we really can't afford it and he knows that too so hopefully that will be a good motivation for him.

Thats nice to hear, smoking is not good fighting against the habit is great! Some rehabiliation centers also help for this.
